Why waste a year of his entry deal on this garbage fire? Stupid Molson just wants to sell some tickets.

This is why he will be on the team.

From Twitter:

Bergevin on RDS admits that he didn't explain his earlier moves well enough. He assumed people would just understand his hockey moves but now he understands not everyone has the info he had access to and now will focus more on explaining himself

Bergevin also did an interview on popular roundtable Quebec talkshow Tout le Monde En Parle and got into a shouting match with a political analyst over his evasiveness.

Over the summer Molson hired a new PR director for the team, an attack dog type, and he spends his days picking fights with Quebec media people willing to call them out on their bullshit.

Here's my Habs projection. They won't be very good, but they'll be better than last year. In the division, they're better than Ottawa, Detroit and Buffalo.

Here's how they can surprise everyone and barely make the playoffs:

1. Price has a .930 Save Pct like his Hart year

2. The young forwards score at a league average rate (2.85 goals per game) until Shea Weber returns

3. Weber returns in December, plays about 55 games and stabilizes the defence and powerplay

What will probably happen:

1. Price rebounds after last season but closer to .920, which is all-star level but not Hart

2. The team surprises by playing with speed early, but the lack of centre depth and defence comes back to haunt them and they end up bottom half of league scoring (2.7 GPG)

3. Weber returns early, starts off well but isn't game ready enough around Feb/Mar when the contenders bump things up another notch. Rest of defence is trash

Lo and behold, the grit-and-attitude Habs are the league's smallest team according to Mirtle's new article in Le Athletique.

I gotta give Claude Julien credit though, they seem to know they're not going to be that team that powers around and wins board battles, so they're gunning it right up the gut and using their speed, and so far it's working.

Habs off to a fast start. They're skating hard and scoring in bunches. Not surprising they're starting the season well: lots of quality young players looking to prove themselves. These sorts of teams tend to fall off once the rest of the league clues into what they're doing, but we'll take it for now.

Habs lose De La Rose on waivers to Detroit. Another pretty high draft pick that wasn't handled well and didn't work out.

Always had limited upside, but he could've become a responsible 3rd liner. Got called up early and just never seemed to round out his game. Tantalizing speed and size but not an active guy on the ice. A real zero-sum guy.

Who do you think you are Habs, Golden Knights of last season?

Kept saying they would come down to earth so not going to do it this season.

Bergevin for GM of the year. That is the only part of all this I do not like.

Looks like 5 on 5 they have been solid but need work on their special teams.

Prior to last season, the team had a particularly solid track record in October. I think they'll start to get exposed when they start meeting the bigger teams, like how the Kings handled them pretty easily.

They're speedy and can force the play, but they're still small up front and thin on defence. Mike Reilly has been their no. 2 D so far this season, which is unsustainable.

Plekanec out "several weeks." Coincidentally enough just played his 1000th game. Wonder if it was all planned out this way.

Kinda of a black mark on Boudreau's record that Reilly appears to be flourishing in Montreal, especially in the wake of some not-so-kind comments from Reilly about his time in Minny.

"You can't just want it - you have to fuckin' want it!" - Best quote ever by Boudreau during his time in DC.

Reilly has been pretty solid since the Habs acquired him, but I can see how the guy might eventually wear out his welcome.

Positives: he can skate, he can dangle, he can move the puck

Negatives: he's scrawny, he's weak down low, he can probably be coerced into making a bad pass although we haven't seen it yet

Post subject:  Re: Fuck this team

Habs are 5-1-2 and people in Montreal are a little too excited with the early returns. Yeah, the young forwards can move and are helping the defence, but I can't say they've had a super rough schedule so far.

Kotkaniemi will likely stay till at least 40 games (that's when this year counts towards unrestricted free agency).

Of the new acquisitions, Domi and Tatar have looked fast and tough to play against. Peca and Armia haven't shown much yet. Hudon is playing his way off the team.

On defence, Reilly and Petry are the long and short of it. Maybe some love for Juulsen too. The rest are hanging on.

Price has looked good not great. That's fine.

I think the team lacks game breakers who can score consistently when the team starts slumping. Drouin will have to become the go-to guy. As long as they skate the defence won't get exposed as much, but if ever they start to hang back, they're screwed.

The Habs are looking more like a fringe playoff team than a bottom dweller at the moment, which is a win considering most pundits pegged them as the latter given the debacle in the front office. Better to build a winning culture than be known as a bunch of lose for Hughers I suppose. They seem to be the early season surprise amongst the Canadian teams.

Interesting. Pleks plays just enough this season to eclipse the 1,000 games played mark, and is now on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a buyout. Is there anything left in the tank or is he being put out to pasture?

Presser going on now, apparently he's going to sign on somewhere in his native Czech Republic. His NHL career is officially over.

I think he was just brought back to get to 1000 games and maybe provide depth if needed. Never really seemed like a fit on a rebuilding team.

All in all a great Hab. At his best, he was a 1b centre who annoyed the opposition, played a little dirty and put up points. Played hard for the Habs and his country. Along with Krecji, kept Czech hockey going during some lean years. Now he gets to go back and help train the next generation.
