Habs played the Bruins three times last week. Lost them all. Stayed in the first one, then got clobbered the next two. Showed very little fight. Pacioretty is scoring again but Drouin is definitely showing the wear of injuries and local boy pressure.

The consensus, as talked about here, is that the defence without Weber (and arguably with Weber) isn't NHL grade, which is nuts because the organization is supposedly built from the goalie out and they chose to sign Alzner over giving Radulov whatever he wanted.

Habs/Avs tonight! Avs coming off a win in Toronto where the Leafs gave 'em all they could handle, so we'll see if they come out tired on the 2nd half of this back-to-back or not.

No word on whether Bernier starts of it they try out The Hamburglar. I'm guessing they stay with the hot hand from Laval.

I'll never understand GMs. Bergevin was a d-man and doesn't seem to put a priority on his D. Snow was a goalie and doesn't put a priority on goalies. Wouldn't you think former players would think their position was the most important and prioritize getting really good players for THAT position? Or are both of those guys like "I was average at best and did well, so I'll save money by getting unreliable guys like me."?

It was the Avs last night who looked completely gassed. Habs beat 'em up but good and cruised to a 4-2 victory. Those two goals the Avs scored were in garbage time, overall a pretty dominant performance by Montreal, especially Jonathan Drouin, whom I believe played a part in all four goals.

The "waiver pairing" of Nemeth-Barberio got really schooled the last two games, I'm still not completely sure they were on the ice for a shot attempt for last night the entire game.

Benn's a no. 5-6 forced to play top pairing minutes with Weber out. No shit he's having a rough time.

Story of the Habs the past few seasons: no top end guys so all these quality depth guys are out of position.

Drouin as no. 1
Galchenyuk benched for "defensive" reasons
Not giving Pacioretty anyone to play with
Shaw on the powerplay
Benn top 4
Alzner top 4
Byron top scoring winger
Byron top scoring centre
Schlemko envisioned as Weber's d partner
Mete envisioned as Weber's d partner as a 19-year-old
Morrow playing at all
Thinking Hemsky isn't finished

Shea Weber hasn't played since Dec. 16. No news on his return.

Should the Habs trade Pacioretty and Weber at the deadline? They won't, at least the latter, but now might be the best time if they care about return.

Weber to the Leafs makes so much sense, but would you trust Bergevin to pick the right prospect(s)?

Going from hearing Renaud Lavoie pronounce "Charles Hudon" to how this guy on Flyers radio pronounces it ("Huddin") is really annoying.

Things are still hopeless in Habtown, but a couple of positives as they ride out the season: Galchenyuk is playing his best hockey since before his injury last year and Julien has finally figured out how to coach him. He's a winger but a fine one. We can live with that.

Also, Nikita Freakin' Scherbak has risen from the dead after a couple of ineffective, injury-plagued seasons in the AHL. He was PPG in Laval and now he's looking great in Montreal. Only two points in 6 games so far but has created offence and doesn't look lost in his own end. The Lefebvre Group may have actually developed a real NHL player!

Deadline coming up but I suspect things will be quiet for them. Plekanec and Jerabek pending UFAs.

Habs get blown out in Glendale 5-2. Doesn't get much lower than that.

What more can be said, really? Without a real no. 1 C, I don't see a way out.

They wasted Carey Price's best years. At least Roy won two Cups before getting the boot.

Bergevin has to be gone this off season. With respect to Price -- what a shame. Best goalie on the planet, immovable contract and they need to tear it down now.

If Bergevin stays, then we know who the real problem in Montreal is.

We already know Molson is a big problem. He named himself team president so there's no oversight. Molson knows nothing about hockey and Bergevin only has to report to him. Local media are begging the team to hire someone, anyone, with some hockey clout to become team president. Bergevin stacked the deck and hired/fired people to corroborate his "Subban is bad" agenda. Molson intervened to get Subban the extension in the first place, and after that, Marc spent an entire season doing a hit job on PK to anyone who would listen.

The Habs org is more interested in selling units to their three giant condos. They're a real estate company with a hockey team on the side. Marc has no one to tell him he's full of shit anymore. Pfieffer, Gilmore, Karpan - all gone.

In an ideal scenario and everyone in their right place next season:

Pacioretty-new centre-Gallagher
Drouin-new centre-Galchenyuk
Lehkonen-Danault-Scherbak
Byron-De La Rose-Shaw

new defenceman-Weber
Alzner-Petry
Mete-Benn

Pricegren

Four new players at key positions! I'm even being generous listing Alzner as top-4. Also, Hudon and Carr also need spots. Evans too, potentially.

If they could find takers for Alzner, Benn and Schlemko, I'd do it. Still useful players but too similar. No speed on the back end.

Nic Deslauriers re-signed for two years. You know how Bergevin and CJ feel about their grinders.

He'll be back after the deadline. I think it was just a numbers game.
