Habs get spooky and draft defenceman Kaiden Ghoul...Guhle.

Habs didn't need an LD but he sounds like a crazy psycho on and off the ice, so sure why not.

He was one of the only remarkable players for Prince Albert when they played at the Memorial Cup in halifax. I saw a couple of the games he played and he really stood out both with his size and how quickly he could move.

Romanov and Guhle might not provide much offence in the show, but they will be flying and hitting guys left and right.

People are probably going to say that he was a bit of a stretch but all of the accounts of his athleticism are staggering. And apparently he has great Gap control which is probably fantastic for team initiations. I certainly want to have the new guys on my team have really good Gap control if I was going to give them a really deep penetrating initiation.

Are we still talking about hockey?

A whirlwind of activity last night, but with 10M in cap space I hope the Habs aren't done after buying out Alzner, acquiring Anderson and drafting Guhle.

Anderson and Mete are the only two RFAs of note, so they have enough to add a good player afterwards, and that's before dumping Weal, who's redundant here.

Needless to say, Quebec media is mad the Habs once again didn't use a high pick on a Quebec-born player. In fact, the Habs are the only team in the league to have not used a pick in the first 4 rounds since 2014 on a QMJHL player.

Trevor Timmins went on sports talk radio to deliver an impassioned defence of how they draft, saying it's a mix of bad timing and pick placement, not an inherent bias against Quebec players. Specifically commented on Vejdemo over Nicholas Roy, saying Roy's skating was poor but he's worked on it. Also defended Juulsen over Beauvillier, saying Juulsen was on his way to being a top-4 defenceman before getting hurt.

While I don't disagree with him that you can't just draft QC guys for the sake of, taking a Guhle over a Hendrix Lapierre puts a big bullseye on your back, and is Guhle's upside really worth it? I give them credit for drafting with their minds over their hearts, but the results haven't been there and they've missed a number of Q guys they shouldn't have missed.

Seems to be a pretty big gap in the pro scouting of this kid between the two clubs. Guess that's what ostensibly two 20 goal seasons gets you in 6 seasons. What's his injury history?

He missed most of this season, including the playoffs, with shoulder surgery. He would've come back for the second round, has a clean bill of health and is training with Gary Roberts, so he's supposedly fine.

Basically, Bergevin wants Anderson to be his Tom Wilson.

Mete is an elite play driver moving the puck from the d zone to the o zone. Only thing is he can't create offensive in the o zone and gets beat a lot in the d zone. How to harness his one elite skill?

I don't think the Habs will figure it out, but some other team might.
