I read an analysis of Weber(from a huge Weber fan, no less) that basically says that he doesn't skate the puck out of the zone and he's suffered since Suter left. He ended up getting hemmed in the zone a lot longer with Josi than Suter. Paired with Emelin? Frigging yikes.

That article gets it.

It all comes down to ideology: Can you be an effective defenceman if you don't touch the puck? The Habs not only say yes, they think it makes you better than a puck carrier. This could be partially motivated by having the the best stickhandling goalie in nets.

Weber excels at positioning, reading the play, being physical down low, keeping forwards to the outside, clearing the crease.

He does not hold on to the puck for more than a second or two in his zone: he'll either feed his d-pairing partner or chuck the puck to open ice.

If he's hemmed in his own zone, he keeps opponents from going towards the net or getting a scoring chance, but he doesn't aggressively try to clear the zone. What's better, standing back and hoping for a stoppage, or attempting to force a turnover, which could leave you exposed? Habs say turtle and wait for Carey to stop the play.

So...I read on HF that there's rumors of Galchenyuk and Beaulieu partying hard and that doesn't sit well with management. Any truth there?

I mean, management was trying to trade Beaulieu at the start of the season and they refused to put Galchenyuk at centre for years, calling him out in the media every chance they got.

Didn't Galchenyuk have an incident last year - like a 6am call to the cops or something that he was invovled in?

Hard to resist the pull of Montreal night life for these dudes. Back in my day at McGill it was Chelios, Corson and Courtnal always on the scene. One night I remember watching them play an away game (I think Pittsburgh) on TV and then later that night was in DJs on Crescent St. and the 3 of them made it in there before closing time! Chelios basically ruled Crescent and St. Laurent back then. Corson was quiet and Courtnal was always chatting up the ladies. They all got traded within a couple years of that I think.

Shayne Corson was quiet once? His old roommate Brett Clark said it was kind of an adventure with him a lot of times.

Most impressive win yet in this short season: dominating division rival Tampa Bay on night two of a back-to-back.

7-0-1, +16 goal diff

Must not be October anymore, because the team is starting to falter.

Textbook Therrien coached team. His October record is nuts. After that? Not so much.

If the Habs win 1-0 tomorrow in a shootout shutout behind Price - major cause for concern.

The writing was on the wall for the Habs versus the Canucks two nights earlier - a home game they had no business winning were it not for the heroics of Price thieving a victory from the jaws of Vancouver.

Who am I to talk being a Canuck's apologist, but they had it coming.....

The sort of game that can derail a soft team.

Therrien left Montoya in for all 10 goals last night, then said post game it's not just his decision. O rly?

After torrid start and rebounding after the 10-0 loss, the Habs have lost two straight.

Radulov missed the last game and the lack of depth on offence was apparent. Therrien is giving Byron and Danault top line spots and giving up on the kids.

Who else has a say? The Blue Jackets??? That's just stupid.

Rumour has it Bergevin has called about Hanzal.

Team has a messy centre situation.

Offensively, Galchenyuk is a clear no. 1. Faceoffs and defensive end play? Not so much.
Plekanec is more a strong no. 3 at this point. Has looked sluggish so far.
Desharnais is a no. 3 too.
Mitchell and Danault are clear no. 4's. Danault could become something more.
