Out with Lars Eller, in with Andrew Shaw. http://www.habseyesontheprize.com/2016/ ... 1466693086 Thoughts? Seems curious to me...I get that Eller wasn't exactly a favored son in Montreal but I don't necessarily think Andrew Shaw is any sort of improvement, except in the ol' grit factor and "compete level." |

It's more a positional switch: third line centre for a more versatile winger. I liked Eller, thought he wasn't put in a position to succeed, but the Habs desperately need wingers who might be able to crack the top six. Lateral move that makes sense. |

Well this indirect swap is coming back to bite the Habs. Ovi and Backstrom are raving about Eller, who put up 3 points in their game 2 win. http://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey/co ... echkin.php Given Shaw's concussions, this has been an unfair fight, but that's the risk that comes with adding smaller grit guys. Given they both produce offence at a similar clip, the Habs would probably have been better off with the durable centre over the versatile forward. They also could've kept both. The rationale at the time was Danault is the better centre, and I won't deny that, but the Habs have Danault playing as a top-2 centre and still need a number 3. Drouin-Danault-Eller-Plekanec last season wouldn't have been the worst. |
