The Canadiens agree to terms on a one-year contract (2015-16) with free agent forward Alexander Semin.

Whoa. A necessary evil, I think. Habs need that Semin magic to trickle down that offence.

This move just makes me laugh. Then cry. But mostly laugh.

Semin released from Carolina and landing in Montreal is pretty damn impressive

It was a long shot, but it had to happen sooner or later. Shame it was sooner.

Is there an example of a bought out player who bounced back?

It's a shame there are no more Polish NHLers.

Ray Whitney.

I feel like this piece of garbage shouldn't even be mentioned.

Ribs doesn't count, because he wasn't bought out for performance reasons.

Semin talked to Markov about coming here. I like that.

Semin's English isn't very good, so his conference call was brief and unintentionally funny at times.

Quote:
"I want to try [and start again]. Last season, I had a bad year. I didn't play well. I want to get back to how I can play.

Grabovski kind of did really well after being bought out.

I thought about mentioning him. His numbers in his last season in Toronto don't look good, but his coach was out for his ass for whatever reason and management was fucking stupid. I thought it was less of a bounce for him and more on the fault of coaching and management.

I think Mirtle said that Grabovski, Kulemin and MacArthur was Toronto's best line while he covered the team, and the Leafs got zero for all three of them.

MacArthur wasn't bought out, but similar concept in that the team walked away from him for nothing after an arbitration ruling.

BTW, this contract is the same as MacArthur's first one with Toronto.

It could blow up in the team's face.

The team needed offence, and they added Kassian and Semin. It's not Sharp, but it will have to do.

I think Montreal's a good landing spot for Semin. In Carolina the team was lousy and no one cared. Here he'll have a chance to score some goals and stroke his ego. I think he can respond to the pressure. Of course, he might also be finished. He's over 30, after all.

Semin apparently had tendinitis in his wrist that forced him into an off-season surgery last year, and he never fully recovered from the surgery and played with a bad wrist. His shot volume plummeted last year, so that could be a reason for it. If he's recovered, good chance at a bounce back. If it's a chronic issue, then he's just a nice stickhandler and not much of a shooter.
