We'll see what happens during the Western swing, but for now the Habs have some distance in the division race.

MTL: 62 GP, 87 PTS, +36 GD
TB: 64 GP, 82 PTS, +39 GD
DET: 61 GP, 81 PTS, +21 GD

What's crazy is how the Habs have made up the gap on TBay in terms of goal differential. The Bolts were quite a bit better in that department for much of the season.

February was an easy schedule relatively speaking, but that being said, Tampa could've had their easy schedule in November propping up their numbers all this time for all I know.

5 average to above average D that can all move the puck at once now with Petry in.

So after today's depth additions, who are the Habs going to battle with?

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher
Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Parenteau
Eller-DLR-DSP
Prust-Mitchell-Weise

Malhotra, Flynn

Markov-Subban
Beaulieu-Petry
Emelin-Gilbert

Gonchar, Weaver

Price

Mitchell only played C this year because Buffalo needed a replacement for Ott. Flynn also seems more like a winger forced to play C.

Wouldn't be shocked by a return to Eller at 3C and Jacob of the Pink moved to 4C.

Habs still first in the conference with 90 points, with a game in hand on the Ducks, who lead the league with 91.

Former Prez Trophy frontrunners the Preds have lost six straight, and could be overtaken by the Blooz and Hawks before too long.

The Habs only got one point out of six in Cali and squeaked by the Yotes in 'Zona, who had Chipchura as a number one centre. Not the best week, but they're still in first and play the Bolts three more times, so the division title will likely come down to those games.

Habs slump has basically torpedoed their big division lead. And even if they win the Atlantic, no guarantee they'd be the top Eastern seed anymore, which would mean Washington in Round 1 instead of Boston.

Basically, right now, it's looking like the Bruins are the Habs 3rd most likely first round opponent now. First is the Caps, second is the Red Wings.

Habs lose a pair in the shootout, but everyone else at the top has also packed it in, so they're still in first in the Adams.

That being said, I think I would rather the Habs finish second and meet the B's or Wings than win the division and potentially meet the Caps. (Although it's looking more like the Isles/Pens.)

Time to rest the stars, though. Markov got the day off against the Devils, and Pacioretty clearly got hurt in the Caps game, as he wasn't skating too well in Newark. He's not going to get 40 lumbering around, so they should sit him till the playoffs.

As crummy as the Habs have looked at times in the past month, they're still only one back of the Presidents with two games left.

They're also two up on the Bolts for tops in the division. Both are at 80 games.

Only a 3% chance at the Presidents in the final week. Really it's just about winning the Division. They'd need a lot of luck to win the Presidents.

Who they play is really up in the air, though. Detroit has slipped to the final Wild Card seed, with Boston pulling ahead of them. Pittsburgh is in that top wild card spot right now. Ottawa is 2 points clear back of all those teams and loses all tiebreaks due to fewer ROWs.

Isn't there a bad correlation between winning the President's trophy & winning the Cup?

More #1 seeds win the Cup than #2 seeds, or #3 seeds, or #4 seeds, etc. Over 25% of the time the Presidents Trophy winner ends up the Cup winner.

Yeah, I think it's just the fact that a big deal is made when the President's Trophy winner "chokes." That was certainly the case when St. Louis practically dismantled a good young team just because of one bad 1st round performance against San Jose in 2000.

Okay thanks. For some reason I thought it was a curse.

Habs need a point in Game 82 to get the 2nd seed. Statistically most likely first round opponent right now is Pittsburgh.

Habs finish the season with 50 wins, 110 pts. Second behind the Rangers.

Last time the Habs won 50? 1989. Made the finals.

Habs made the conference finals last season with pretty much the same team. Oh ye of little faith.

I'm just saying, 50 wins isn't what it used to be.

But we definitely don't have the 3rd/4th lines we did back then. We do have better D.

Hey is Gilbert going to play? Pateryn still makes me a little nervous back there since he's obviously getting his feet wet but generally does well. Better than Gonch and way better legs than Weave.
