Sounds like a pre-season body, might get signed if there are injuries.

Wouldn't be shocked if teams did this more and more, or at least tried to.

If Eller is up for grabs, the Avs damn well better be on the phone. He'd address the gaping hole in the lineup left by Stastny's departure in a big, big way.

And NO, you can't have O'Reilly. Or Duchene. Or MacKinnon. Or Landeskog. Definitely Malkin though.

Where in the world did you get the idea that the guy we just signed for 4 years is up for grabs because Therrien benched him during a game?

Is Eller the kind of personality that Therrien knows he can pick on and bench and it'll just roll off of Eller's back if he knows it's unjustified?

People have been benching Eller since he came to town. He definitely appears to be an easy target. I was actually kind of shocked he committed to four years. (not surprised Bergevin wanted him that long, but surprised he didn't look for the quickest way out of town)

Anyway, he plays all his hockey with Rene Bourque and now has Dale Weise on his RW. The Habs have forward depth but refuse to let Eller have anything but the scraps.

Here's a hard-hitting question: If Gallagher's nickname is "Gally" then what's Galchenyuk's?

Chucky, of course.

Gallagher is Melons.

Bergevin missed the memo then, he was referring to "Gally" when talking about the new extension.

Brendan Gallagher signed a six-year extension with the team over the weekend, at 3.75M per.

A good deal for the team, most would say.

Those who suggest Gallagher's small stature will lead to him breaking down physically at a faster-than-normal rate should note he'll only be 29 when the deal ends.

Dino Ciccarelli lasted over 1200 games, Pat Verbeek over 1400, in much more brutal eras. Even Donald Audette lasted over 700, and while he did have a few knocks on him before then, what did him in was the wrist slicing.

Gallagher at that rate for his entire prime is an absolute steal. He's worth that cap rate easily already.

Gallagher took a flukey shot to the hand tonight and broke two fingers. He'll be out for a while. Mitchell, Emelin and DSP are already out, but the latter two could return Wednesday against the Rangers. The Habs have been so lucky health-wise the last two seasons.

Without Gallagher, Semin may get another look. DSP could move up, as could callups Andrighetto and Holloway.

Pacioretty-Plekanec-Semin
Eller-Galchenyuk-Andrighetto
Fleischmann-Desharnais-Weise
Byron-Flynn-Bud/DSP

Gallagher is back, thank god. Weise is out 2-3 weeks, which is probably for the best.

The team really needs a poor man's Gallagher to bring sandpaper, speed and net presence to the second line. Will it be Ghetto? Carr? Someone else?
