McCarron and Fucale are in the Memorial Cup next week.

Here's an update on the McCarron pick:

McCarron post draft: 125 points in 152 OHL games
Klimchuk post draft: 172 points in 134 WHL games
Dickinson post draft: 181 points in 153 OHL games
Hartman post draft: 57 points in 57 OHL games, 47 points in 86 AHL games, 0 points in 5 NHL games
Erne post draft: 179 points in 130 QMJHL games, 4 points in 8 AHL games

Those are all the forwards taken from McCarron to JDLR in 2013 (25th to 34th overall)

RFA C Gabriel Dumont has been told he won't be offered a contract. A small, plucky centre who played a handful of NHL games over the last four seasons.

And Finnish forward Artturi Lehkonen will spend another year in Sweden.

I was at an Evenko luncheon today and their president said construction on the Place Bell arena in Laval is well underway. The first floor is done. On track for a September 2017 opening. He also said things had already been booked for the new venue.

Remains to be seen if the Habs' AHL affiliate will move there, but probably.

Habs sign Dumont and Ellis to two-way, one-year deals. Surprised about that. Figured they would be pushed out with new grads joining the AHL.

Former Hab prospect Louis Leblanc, who spent last season in Norfolk, is trying out for HC Davos http://swisshockeynews.ch/index.php/swi ... h-hc-davos

Recent Hab drafting:

Bergevin era:
Big, scoring RW in 2014
Very big RH centre/RW in 2013, big LH centre/LW at 34, future goalie crapshoot pick at 36
Obvious lottery guy in 2012, trade chip at 33

Before that:
Big, mobile LH D in 2011
Very big, defensive LH D in 2010

At 26 you're settling for a faller, but they'll probably continue the trend of drafting size early and picking up undersized skill later on. Organizationally they could use a scoring LW, a centre and maybe a LD if a Kylington-type falls.

The guy whose scouting report reads: "A real competitive, mobile center who knows his defensive duties," sounds like an obvious fit.

Habs at the draft so far:

1 26 26 MTL NOAH JUULSEN D CAN 6' 1" 174 WHL EVERETT
3 26 87 MTL LUKAS VEJDEMO C SWE 6' 2" 194 SWEDEN-JR. DJURGARDEN JR.
5 10 131 MTL MATTHEW BRADLEY C CAN 5' 11" 187 WHL MEDICINE HAT

I don't really know any of these guys. I'm sure they're fine.

Juulsen seems like a good puck mover. The Swede is a lanky two-way centre. Bradley is considered a high hockey IQ centre.

Not really mentioned but St. John's signed Eddie Pasquale, who was a Thrashers draft pick and posted a .920 SV% in the AHL last year with St. John's in 31 games. It's very possible that Zach Fucale will start his pro career as an ECHL starter in Brampton, with Condon and Pasquale being the AHL goalies. Condon is signed to a one way contract starting next year as the 3rd goalie, and it's very possible Tokarski plays out the season on his cheap deal as the backup in Montreal before he is let go to make way for the similarly cheap Condon as Price's backup. That'd mean that Fucale would go to the AHL in one year, or at least wait until part way through this season.

McCarron's still growing a bit: he's up to 6'6", 225. Definitely likes playing centre.

What to do with Jarred Tinordi has been a subject of conversation lately. He's on the roster, and can't be sent down without going through waivers, but he's clearly not better than the 7 D in front of him.

The team's winning so it's hard to justify giving reps to a guy who hasn't improved the things he needed to work on (footspeed, decision making)

He's a 6'6, 230 lbs dman who was drafted in the first round, which are the only things keeping him around right now. His dad Mark has also been a pain, talking to the media and generally acting like he knows what's best for his boy.

I'm sure Bergevin is looking for a taker, although the return will be little.

Didn't take long for McCarron to score his first professional hat trick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNynxhbYptg

Interesting 3 goals.

Sneaky / fluky backhander?
sure

Really nice deflection?
sure

Then a bullet from the high slot.
Sweet.

An NHL Goalie would have / should have stopped the first one.

On the second, I'm not sure how he ended up all alone with that much space in front of the net -again, I don't think players get that much time and space in the biggie league.

The final goal though?

That's a goal anywhere. Great movement, great shot.

Bud Holloway has 10 points in seven games in St. John's. If the Habs lose a top-6 guy to injury or ineffectiveness (*cough* Semin *cough*), Bud might get the call.
