I agree with Stinky here. I was really unimpressed with the signing of Hoffman. Time will tell, yes he may get a few PP goals, but no character and I don't want a good locker room to go bad.

I don't love the Hoffman signing, but it's clear the Habs wanted to improve the powerplay, and Hoffman is an elite powerplay shooter. They'll shield him 5v5. I'd be shocked if he lasts three seasons here. The contract is manageable for a guy who can score 20 in his sleep.

Savard and Paquette really wanted to come home. That's good, because they'll be the francophone players of record with Danault out and Drouin's status still up in the air.

I'm not too broken up about Perry. He was great last season, but he was also found money: a last-minute taxi squad pickup. He's 36 and has already been left for dead in his career twice. His leadership will be missed, but you never know when the wheels will come off for good. They've got strong bodies on the wings and there are still a number of vets out there looking for one-year deals.

A very underwhelming FA period, but only if you look at returning to the Finals next year. What disturbs me about Perry is you have a guy that liked the Habs, played for the Habs, and then chose the Lightning. I'm sure family played a role, but still.... I think the writing on the wall is that it's still a TBL world and the Habs are just spectators. At least they increased the francophone content by one.

Habs add yet another forward: Mathieu Perreault for a year, 950K.

Still an effective 4th liner, can pot a goal and play at both ends. Got more offensive deployments in Winnipeg.

Lots of bodies, but the Habs might not be done making moves.

Perreault, Savard, Paquette all sounded really excited to be here, which is a nice change from the reluctance of Briere, Parenteau and Tanguay.

I'd rather they fill the QC quota with depth guys than deal a Sergachev for Drouin, to be honest.

The Habs, and any team really, should lean into whatever advantage they have in acquiring players, including grabbing enthusiastic locals.

When the Jets checked out during their sweep vs. the Habs, he was one of the last guys who put an effort every shift. If he pots 8-10 goals as a bottom-6 guy, they'll be thrilled.

Also, are they good with Kulak-Wideman as 6-7?

Once Weber and Byron go LTIR, there's money to spend, but they may not be able to spend it yet.
