Sure hope Claude doesn't get shitcanned from the Habs a second time, as this just isn't his fault that he's been saddled with a pretty mediocre roster that's suffered major injuries and the goaltending just hasn't been anywhere near good enough. But you just never know. I'm sure he'll get another gig very quickly.

This whole team from top to bottom doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it rebuilding? Is it going for it? Neither, it's just mediocre. Bergevin hasn't pulled the trigger either way since adding Weber and Radulov, and Julien is tasked with coaching like they're a playoff team but also saddled with a bunch of kids who may not be ready. What can he do? He's screwed either way. It's a mess, this team has no identity, and for some reason they think through sheer will Price and Weber can guide the team. Alas it's not their job to acquire the players or coach them.

Another option for Bergevin if he doesn't want to trade 2021 UFAs Tatar, Gallagher, Petry etc.: weaponize the over 10M (prorated) in cap space. Contenders teams tight to the cap are desperate to add players while shedding salary. Habs can take on players in exchange for picks/ELC guys.

Habs doing what they do best: win in impressive fashion against the Panthers and lose a tough one against the Blue Jackets. That's what happens when you're a .500 team - you win some, you lose some.

Ilya Kovalchuk has been awesome since arriving in Montreal and fans want him back next season. I honestly can't say I blame them.

From Friedman's 31 Thoughts:

Quote:
"Montreal feels injuries derailed its season and wants to be competitive in 2020-21."

That's simply not true. The defence has 13 man games lost this season. More than half their man games lost are by Drouin and Byron.

Weber out at least a week with LBI. Apparently happened in the Devils game, and was not a blocked shot. They are saying that the supposed area is swelling and it's not coming down.

Wouldn't be a Habs season without a mysterious injury they're being vague about.

Yeah, I really hope it's not that serious as he's finally been a beast since becoming fully healthy.

Kovalchuk the hero again against Toronto. He was skating at an outdoor rink with his kids in Verdun. Montrealers are loving this guy.

Courtesy of Bobby Mac on Twitter:

Quote:
I’m hearing the prognosis on Shea Weber’s LBI is not at all encouraging in terms of him playing any time soon. That said, other than saying he won’t be on the BOS-PIT road trip and won’t play any games this week, information from MTL on Weber’s health has been on lockdown.

People who went to Habs skills competition at the Bell Centre on Sunday are surprised because Weber was walking around fine and meeting fans...

The Weberless Habs get thoroughly flattened by the Bruins. Not much of a rivalry when it's a one-way whupping.

Habs are inching towards sell mode at the deadline.

Jeff is a great 2RHD but wilts when he's the top dawg.

Habs put up no fight against the Pens Friday. They've clearly given up, and I don't blame them.

Habs blow a 3-0 lead against the Stars, then trash the refs in the postgame. Sure, missed calls aplenty, but who's going to respect the Habs at this point?

At least the team is making the buy/sell question a real easy one for Bergy.

I find it interesting that at this point you think any question is "real easy for Bergy." Me thinks you are giving him too much credit for intelligence he does not have. :P

Shea Weber is practicing today and will likely play tomorrow. Sure, why not?

Sigh, you're not wrong...

Really sounds like Bergy will stand pat this deadline, except to maybe deal pending UFAs Thompson, Scandella and Folin for low picks. After a fast start, Kovalchuk has faded with the rest of the team but they might still view him as a buy low for 2020-21.

After the Coleman deal, you have to think Bergevin will listen on Tatar and Petry, but I don't know if he can bring himself to make the big splash for the future, even if he's missing out on potential 1st rounders and quality prospects.

Habs trade Scandella to STL for a 2nd and a conditional 4th not long after acquiring him from Buffalo for a 4th. Great job, Botterill!
