Scored his first two goals as a Hab in a thrilling comeback win against the reigning Cup champs last night. Kotkaniemi is real good.

Scored a big goal in a back and forth comeback victory against the Golden Knights and the former captain.

They're not saddling Kotkaniemi with too much (13 mins a night mostly on offence, getting beat badly on FOs), but he's showing he can hang. Seems set to eclipse Barkov's rookie season numbers, which would be a good sign because he's probably your best template to copy.

If Nathan MacKinnon proves anything, it's that you can be a center and MVP candidate while still sucking uproariously bad at faceoffs.

The faceoff thing is overstated. Kotkaniemi needs to be better than 20 percent, but can live just fine losing more than he wins. It's just a bit magnified here because the Habs as a team are pretty bad on faceoffs, and losing Plekanec won't help matters.

Then again, Habs tolerated a season of Manny Malhotra, who definitely proved faceoffs aren't the be all end all.
