I got a feeling this is gonna be a busy thread this year.

So what role does DayHarNay play this year? Sheltered scoring line guy? I assume that Plekanec line will be the defensive one.

I'd like to see what you could do by switching those RWs, then one is a slick scoring line, the other is the pest/hardnosed grinders you send out against the tough matchups.

The Habs are missing a scoring LW. Knowing how Therrien and Bergevin feel, as soon as Galchenyuk hits a rough patch they'll move him back there and put DD back as no. 2 C. A moronic move, but an easy-to-telegraph one.

This season is all about suppressing Alex's value as much as possible. He's a pending RFA and like PK before him, the Habs brass have made it clear they don't entirely trust him. Not the kind of guy you sign long-term.

Andrew Shaw is such a meathead. Got into a scrap for show in an exhibition game, gestured to the crowd to cheer. He's a hockey player through and through and no doubt his teammates will love him, but he's an utter dolt to me.

He was a tool when he was a Blackhawk, he'll probably be a tool as a Hab.

And that's probably how it's gonna play out too. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Kovy's MTL numbers:

2005-06 Montreal Canadiens NHL 69 23 42 65
2006-07 Montreal Canadiens NHL 73 18 29 47
2007-08 Montreal Canadiens NHL 82 35 49 84
2008-09 Montreal Canadiens NHL 78 26 39 65

Habs would be thrilled with three of those, and wouldn't hate the other.

Matteau on waivers. Hudon and De La Rose sent down.

Forwards on the bubble fighting for 13th spot: Andrighetto, McCarron, Flynn

Pretty sure Lehkonen is in.

Something that's been reported about Bergevin that has me thinking: He's not a fan of defencemen who carry the puck because he thinks it actually slows play up the neutral zone. He prefers defencemen who can clear the puck and make a hard first pass, which gets the forwards moving.

Hm. Something to chew on.

Roy LOVES the stretch pass from the back end. Maybe Bergevin has an idea of who his next coach might be...

Problem with that mode of thinking is that it's exceedingly easy to stop an offensive breakout scheme dead in its tracks when all you gotta do is sit in the neutral zone and clog up the lanes.

Surprising move this morning: local boy Mark Barberio placed on waivers. Redmond makes the team instead.

Agreed, its like football, you need the run to be a threat to make it easier for the passers. Spread the defence out and don't let them focus on one or the other.

Barbalator was terrible in the game I watched.

Price out with "severe flu symptoms." Missed the opener and will miss game two.

WTH is wrong with this guy?

Home opener tonight. Price still out.

Habs took 3/4 points on the road against likely non-playoff teams (Ott, Buf) and got heavily outchanced both games. Basically played Therrien/Weber hockey: Hemmed in their zone, chipping off the boards, protect and limit SOG. Uninspiring and unlikely to work against better competition.

Galchenyuk has been getting roasted on faceoffs, but Therrien said he's keeping him as no. 1.

Someone on Twitter called it "Groin Flu." That's probably what it is.

Habs clobber the defending champs in the home opener 4-0. No Crosby or Murray, btw.

Petry and Radulov have looked great so far.

Non-stats people see this: Habs are 3-0-1, have a +9 Goal Diff, and Weber is +6
Stats people see: A team that's giving up a lot of shot attempts, especially when Weber is on the ice

Watched my first Habs game of the season last night, TV or otherwise.

Yes, they're 5-0-1, but even in my limited viewing it's pretty clear that some of that is smoke and mirrors.

Mediocre competiton. Beating the Bruins was impressive. Beating the Yotes, Flyers, the Eichel-less Sabres and the Crosby-less Pens? Not so much. They lost to the soft Sens in OT.

The number one pairing is currently Emelin-Weber. They're manhandling forwards in the earlygoing, but there's no way these two will be able to sustain it all season. Not enough mobility to take down elite forwards.

They're hemmed in their zone a lot. They don't give up a lot of chances per se, but it's time not spent on offence. The defence no longer carries the puck up the ice, forcing the forwards to come back and skate it up. Won't this be tiring against teams that clog up the neutral zone?

No powerplay. Still.

Galchenyuk can't win a faceoff, to the point where Gallagher is taking them on his strong side.

That being said, Radulov is an absolute beast. Fantastic addition thus far. Lehkonen looks like an NHLer. Weber is a very intelligent player and the type of physical presence the team has needed, but at the expense of PK? We'll see how he does against the speedy Bolts.

And Price, of course. Wouldn't shock me if he won a second Hart trophy.
