The Hockey News recently released its "Future Watch 2012," and it claims the Wild have five of the top 40 prospects in the game — the first time any team has had that many in the in the publication's history.

Granlund is #2 overall.

Nate Prosser got himself tossed last night for pulling a Kaleta:

Parise - Koivu - Heatley
Bouchard - Granlund - Setoguchi
Cullen - Brodziak - Clutterbuck
Mitchell - Powe - Konopka
Kassian

AHL: Coyle, Larsson, Zucker, Bulmer, Phillips, oh my.

Suter - Gilbert
Stoner - Scandella
Brodin - Spurgeon
other guy I don't know anything about, Kampfer

Junior: Dumba

Backstrom
Harding

AHL: Hackett, Gustafsson, Kuemper

Team needs to improve on D. Backstrom being traded is one way to open up a spot. A buffer Hamrlik-type would be a great add.

Carle is definitely out of price range, but if the team can flip Backstrom to Toronto without taking back any bad players they should be able to add Rozsival to shore up their 2nd D pair. Spurgeon is pretty good, though, and both play right side. I guess they can go with two 2.5 pairs instead of a definite 2nd and 3rd pairing if they went that route.

Want my opinion? Coyle's ready to go.

You're probably right, E.L., I just don't know where they put him without giving up a decent veteran they don't need to give up. Unless they keep Backstrom for his final year and ship out one of Bouchard, Cullen, or Setoguchi.

Signed Jake Dowell today as well. Dowell, Suter, and Gilbert were all teammates in Wisconsin. You know who was their leading scorer that year (03/04)? Rene Bourque. Say Minny, how about Bouchard for Bourque?

I heard that Brodin is Lidstrom-esque. This could be a very scary team in a couple years.

Don't forget about Jason Zucker. The kid doesn't suck, though he's no Coyle.

He's on my list of players there in the AHL, along with Coyle, Larsson, and Bulmer. All these kids have game. Used to be the future was all they had. Right now I'd say Minny moved up to a decent team that with a mostly healthy roster makes the playoffs in a low seed, and now their kiddie corps is what would make them a contender in a couple of years. You don't go from one of the worst to contender overnight in the NHL, but they've made themselves legit with these moves.

And of course, the Avs open the season against the Wylde in Minnesota on "Hockey Day."

Great.

According to Russo, Kampfer was reassigned to Houston, meaning there's a good chance Mathew Dumba will be there on opening night.

Can't remember what the rule is for junior players this year...I think it's 6 games.

On a side note...what an unfortunate name. His first name isn't even spelled right.

Suter - Spurgeon? I don't see that pairing working.

I read today and confirmed on the Wild site that Dumba is number 55.

Yeah no one knew. ;)

Don't have the link, but Coyle is due to make his NHL debut now. It's all about the kids this year in Minny.

Attention Yeo: Spurgeon-Suter didn't work earlier this season, and it ain't gonna work now.

Brodin is killing it so far. They've at least got some hope on their blueline shining through.

Wylde sign Brett Clark, pending physical. :effort:

What do you know, Suter starts out poorly, they pair him up with this 19-year-old rookie who just recovered from a broken collarbone, and now he's 2nd leading scorer in the league amongst defensemen. Jonas Brodin is already playing the part of Shea Weber.
