Excellent analysis on why the Kings are a dominant possession team. This might explain why, despite their great possession numbers, their actual scoring numbers aren't great.

Interesting analysis. Seeing this team play a great deal, I would agree with the conclusion that biggest contributing factor to their possession advantage comes from simply winning the neutral zone. How they do it is another question, but this is where opposition coaching staffs should start when trying to break down their system.

It's their strong neutral zone play but more specifically their strong positional play in the neutral zone as a 5 man unit. They tend to play very wide structurally creating a box in the middle of the ice, forcing opponents to make plays along the boards, where they have a distinct strength and size advantage over most teams. They stretch along the boards and collapse into the middle. They also have skilled enough top 4-6 D pairings to keep their positional structure sound relative to one another in a neutral zone defensive posture, causing broken plays or turnovers -- or preventing quality entries by their opponents.

Went to the Kings/ Canes (3-1) game on Saturday afternoon in LA with my 4 year old boy. He loved it! Especially liked number 8 on the Kings. Smart boy.

We had great seats, centre ice 11th row. But man, I couldn't believe how little room on the ice there is for these players to manoeuvre and get shots through. You really notice it more up close. It's almost laughable. It's like watching grown men playing floor hockey in an Elematary school gymnasium. They need to do something about it. Seriosuly.
