Nope....I just watched this game. He fell backwards onto his right ankle awkwardly in the corner with OByrne. Trouble there.

Yeah, that's bad.

Tough to watch... They say six weeks; that would be quite something if he were able to return that quickly...

Who will score their goals now?

Perhaps they can take a page from Phoenix's book and have their d-men do it.

Brutal. Kings have lost their top 2 scorers in the past few weeks with Anze and Williams. Smyth is the kind of guy who steps up in these situations, we'll see if he has anything left in the tank. Add Penner, Brown, Stoll, Handzus and (insert scrub, either Lewis or Richardson or somebody) and they probably still have a better top-6 than Phoenix or Nashville. Doughty seems to have found his game lately, so good D and good goalies. I say if Smyth can find some magic these guys can still be dangerous.

There are Brayden Schenn call-up rumours around town... one more injury and they can call him up, but they'd burn the year on his contract after he played two games and it would put him in a situation he's probably not ready for.

And it's playoff time, don't be taking the guy the Blades traded their entire future for!

Reportedly there were some ligament tears along with the break, so count Anze out until next year. Wow. I wouldn't be too confident with Stoll and Handzus as my 1-2 centers going into the postseason.

This just might be the window of opportunity for Dallas to catch them; the magic number is 11... It's still a huge mountain to climb though - they're currently at 37% to make the playoffs.

More trouble: Smyth wants to go back to the Oil.

Meh. I love the guy but he was really streaky for the Kings, I think he gives his all but is just worn out. It would be cool to see him finish in Edmonton and the Kings could probably do just as well by giving more ice time to guys like Moller, Schenn, Lokitonov, and even Clifford. Or use all that dough saved on a UFA, even in a relatively weak crop there are guys who could do as well or better: Laich, Jussi Jokinen, Upshall, maybe even Knuble.

What the heck is wrong with LA? Are Terry Murray and Dean Lombardi making one of the most alluring NHL markets unbearable? Last year, they couldn't attract the free agents. This year, their own players want to be traded? TO EDMONTON???? This has gotta be a first in the post-Gretzky era.

I get the impression that the players like LA. They got Ponikarovsky and Mitchell last year, and Scuderi the year before. I think last year Kovalchuk desperately wanted to come to LA but didn't like the contract term and Lombardi wouldn't budge. I am pretty sure that Frolov leaving was also LA's idea.

Smyth I believe is a special sentimental case, the guy just loves Edmonton.

Okay, now Feaster is reportedly trying to work a deal that sends Smyth to Calgary.

I can't see Smyth EVER giving the OK for a deal that puts him in a Flames uniform.

Lombardi confirms what Smyth denied earlier, that he wants to be dealt back to Alberta. Apparently it's for family reasons, so he very well MAY accept a trade to the Flamers.

Wow.

Handzus is unrestricted. I doubt he's back. Lewis is their #4 C.

I think seeing what the team had to do without Kopitar really emboldened Lombardi. He's usually super cautious. But this is a great move. He's got two centres you can build a team around. Kind of like what Philly used to be.

Oh my...

Williams - Kopitar - Brown
Ponikarovsky - Richards - Penner
Clifford - Stoll - Richardson
Parse - Fraser - Westgarth

Johnson - Mitchell
Doughty - Greene
Scuderi - Drewiski

That's going to be one very tough team to play against...of course they have yet to sign Doughty but I'm sure they'll figure something out. They don't have a ton of cap room to play with, even with the Smyth salary dump.

I imagine there'll be plenty of Kesler/Richards bouts for years to come, especially if they end up putting the Canucks and Kings in the same division.
