They need to get an actual power play quarterback. The failure to score even a little with the man-advantage was by far the biggest reason why they failed.

I'd also move on from Weegar and/or Montour. Weegar for sure though, two postseasons in a row where he was one of the worst players on the ice.

Brunette out, Maurice in.

Not really sure what Maurice has at this point that Brunette doesn't, but it goes to show just how high expectations were in Florida and how badly the Tampa series stung. They've got some cap decisions to make this offseason and they'll be busy.

This feels like a panic move to me, which is not the first time this ownership group has done so.

The mistake IMO was not finding an in-season replacement. Bruno just wasn't ready yet. He got put in a really tough position and now it appears he's a Jack Adams finalist who was never anything more than a one-and-done interim head coach.

Admittedly this will be far and away the most talented team Maurice has ever coached, and he has a knack for being a quick-fix guy who starts off well IIRC. He should be fine in the role, but...he's previously never been the guy who can get a team over the top.

The Panthers are now Vegas East: churning through stars and coaches, discarding picks and futures like they're worthless.

Remains to be seen if this strategy will work, but Tkachuk is a unique player. But maybe not the premiere talent that can win you a Cup. Weegar also very underrated, and this defence was weak to begin with.

I honestly don't think the Panthers have made one good decision since Quenneville was forced out. Not a single one.

Bobrovsky has gone from bad contract to great contract in the span of a few weeks.

A lesson to always focus on the best player involved in any trade. Huberdeau and Weegar were good, but Tkachuk is better.

Yup, and this is the problem that the Leafs are staring down.
