No, because that stretches my suspension of disbelief too far. ESPN doesn't cover hockey.

The Panthros had a promotion--buy a ticket to the game tonight against Buffalo and the next game is free if the Panthros win.

They lost.

Tallon says there won't be a head coaching change, but changes are on the way.

Whatever that means.

They're dropping down to the ECHL so they can be competitive?

As reported elsewhere, Dineen and his assistants, in the final year of their respective contracts, get fired.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6905 ... l:topheads

The headline should read: Lame duck coaches get the axe from the Cats.

Peter Horachek, who was last in the NHL as an assistant in Nashville, takes over as head coach. I hear Horachek is a pretty scary guy when angry. Guess Tallon thought that's what this team needed.

Listening on NHL radio it's pretty clear Dale Tallon was overruled here. New owner Vinnie Viola (who sounds like a guy who put cement shoes on Dineen rather than just pink slip him) likely made the call.

And maybe that's reason why Florida never has and likely never will succeed. New owner, new direction seemingly every few years. I remember Alan Cohen wanted a big-name flashy player, so they traded Jovanovski for Bure.

And then they got desperate and hired Mike Keenan. I actually thought he'd leave the franchise in better shape than he left it. Silly me.

Now we got Vinnie Viola already countermanding Tallon--how soon before Dale himself gets the axe? And should he?

I also hear Tallon's burning up the phone lines and offering up anyone not named Barkov or Huberdeau and simply isn't getting any response. It's once again No Man's Land in sunny Florida.

One of those guys is a NHL defenseman.

(Hint: it's the Russian)

That came from Friedman's 30 thoughts -- look who is listed second after the GM.

Oh I realize the goofy hire and that he's listed second after the GM. I'm just not sure why the Assistant GM would care all that much. I'd be more worried if I was Tallon that I have to report to or work alongside a guy who might have the same level of hockey knowledge as Gary Bettman.

Corsi says Tom Gilbert doesn't suck, Ryan Whitney does:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/how- ... -breakout/

Interesting that Whitney's fancy stats were bad even before the onrush of injuries. I knew he wasn't exactly Chris Pronger in the defensive zone, but I thought he was better than that.

Probably for the best a Panthros fan not have to witness their team play.

Yeah, Tyler quoted those numbers a while back and I responded with "if that's the case, I wonder if Ryan Whitney was ever really a NHL quality defender." He agreed with that. He's pretty much Cam Barker if Barker had stuck around the Hawks a bit longer, or had started getting hurt within a year or two after leaving Chicago.

If that's the case, then getting Kunitz for him was a bigger case of highway robbery than initially thought.
