I really think the Edmonton Oilers are going to demolish everyone this season. It's a star league and they have the biggest star of all. He could lead the Art Ross race by 30 points.

Has there ever been a player so good that he can overcome an incompetent front office? Even Sid the now-30-year-old Kid can't say that.

Interesting that Kailer Yamamoto is on the opening night roster while Jesse Puljujärvi is not. I also don't expect Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to be in Edmonton next season, though I'd be mildly surprised if he were dealt before the deadline.

Oilers make a deal to try and get some scoring depth on the right side (or any side for that matter): Mike Cammalleri heads to Edmonton in exchange for Jussi Jokinen.

If this trade had happened around 7 years ago it would be a bigger deal.

The really ominous thing is that the Oilers look poised to double down on The Boys on the Bus.

Coffey's in. Gretzky's in. Other Gretzky's in. Lowe and MacTavish never left. It's like they're going to learn all the wrong lessons from their foray outside the organization.

Watched the tail end of the Vegas/Edmonton game last night, a game the Oilers were out of pretty much the whole night. It's astounding to me how...invisible...Connor McDavid is right now. There's NO ONE on the back end even remotely dangerous with the puck or capable of really manning a breakout scheme, and McDavid is oftentimes sailing forward solo when the puck actually DOES land on his stick because no one can keep up with him. He's actually quite easy to neutralize if all you have to do is focus your efforts on making sure he never gets the puck. Just sad to watch.

I can imagine McD is pretty upset about how things have gone down this season. Last spring they looked like Cup contenders and it's all gone sideaways. I feel like this happened to Sid too, where his play sagged when the coach/team wasn't right.

Interesting read on what happened to the Oilers after elimination from playoff contention. It's weird - on the whole they seem better than their record this year would indicate, but not as good as the the Cup contenders they were touted to be at the end of last season. The loss of Hall and Eberle thinned out their high end skill more than anticipated and Lucic has fallen off the map. Not to mention sub par goaltending and playing with big expectations.

Geez what's worse the Lucic 7 year contract in Edmonton or the Ericksson 6 year agreement in Vancouver? That's what free agency can fetch ya -- or not fetch as it were.

Both are ridiculous, but I’m glad from a Vancouver standpoint that Ericksson’s over soon.

I was about to say Lucic by a mile, but the guy still put up 23 goals last season. He can lose some weight and get motivated. Eriksson really got comfy in Vancouver. He needs a Vanek or Vrbata situation where his preferred team kicks him to the curb.

Either way, if Boston doesn't want to re-sign someone, run.

Looch with 1 point in his final 46 games. There are goalies who matched that level of production.

Great deal by Chiapet.

This is weird...are NHL teams really allowed to own Major Junior clubs? That seems like it'd create a conflict of interest at some point.

Hey, at least the Oilers are figuring out a loophole somewhere, and don't have to rely on winning the lottery. Again.

Yep. They say Poolparty is a few pucks short of a bag. I guess ol' Jarmo knew something at the time the rest of us didn't.

The #Oilers have signed defenceman Joel Persson to a one-year contract & will assign him to the Vaxjo Lakers of the Swedish Hockey League for the 2018-19 season

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We want him, but not right now...

One year deal, and assign him overseas... for the year. This is so very Oilers.

Oiler elect to buyout Gryba, even though they could easily bury his puny 1M contract in the minors. An absolutely bush league move.
