German Gretzky is apparently near traded to Kelowna now. Oil expected to send him down over the weekend (won't hit 40 games, will probably stop at 39, which means he doesn't get counted as a year of service towards UFA). Kelowna will probably trade one of their Euro players as part of the return, and the player being returned is at the WJCs so the trade can't be made at the WHL level yet anyway.

Anyone else wondering if Yakupov will ever really click? Offence first guys usually don't struggle like this to make their mark. It can happen, but man...

I think I was reading--was it Willis?--and he put up some pretty dispiriting numbers. Dude's getting decent minutes and soft matchups and still putting up 4th line numbers.

Such a shame. Every time I see him rip that one-timer I think "no way can this guy be a bust" but he's just not engaged. It's telling that Benny Pouliot is outplaying/outproducing him by a country mile.

Maybe he just needs some time away from whatever Eakins was doing with him to get it back together. But whatever it is, he doesn't seem like the kind of player that can lift his teammates, which is what you'd expect out of a top pick.

I wonder if he meant Paul Coffey and Charlie Huddy at that same time.

OK, morons, you've been given yet another golden opportunity.

Build around McDavid. Acquire a number one goalie. Develop a stable top-4 defence. Get some legit checking forwards.

Well, at the very least let poor Dellow out of the basement prison he's been in since Eakins got shitcanned.

I hope this organization doesn't yet again ruin another truly great player's career.

Do we think Edmonton has ruined Hall, Eberle, or RNH? Yakupov maybe, but he's always been the weak link of recent 1st overalls.

They just stink outside those guys something awful. Everyone still thinks those other guys are all good.

Draisaitl wasn't ready this past year, but now they can put him in the AHL.

Gretzky? Lol

Yes, their player development/ support system seems off and team construction always leaves you scratching your head. Like what the fuck happened with Dubnyk?

It just comes down to a faulty management regime for decades, no clear leadership, poor decisions, old boys club, Kevin Lowe, ownerships pocket, blah blah blah.

Fuck this idiot organization. I'd rather see McDavid not sign a contract, go to Europe for two years and then re-enter the fucking draft. Fuck Kevin Lowe and Darryl Katz.

Agreed. For the entertainment value alone. Never mind that Edmonton doesn't deserve another 1st.

My ideal scenario--the Las Vegas team is announced and the Oilers somehow leave him off the protected list in the expansion draft. If any organization could do it, it'd be them.
