Right now I'm feeling alright with the Red Wings. They are giving every team they face a real tough defensive game. They still lose more than they win but, that is to be expected. All I ask of them this year is that they give a good effort and be competitive in every game. They have been difficult to score on with some notable exceptions but for the most part, win or lose you can tell they gave their best effort. That's all I ask this year. We have some decent pieces for trade bait to pick up draft picks or prospects and hope the draft lottery is finally kind to us this year.

He was a stone wall and shut Detroit out in the 1st game of this little series. Admittedly, that is not a particularly great accomplishment this year. He was absolute shite in the second game.

Nice to see Berns is doing well for Detroit. He always had the talent, but injuries, particularly concussions, have really taken a toll on his career. I refuse to believe that smaller guys can't play goal in the NHL.

On a side note, Stevie Y said in an interview that the NHL is probably going to finally fix the idiotic changes that were made to the draft lottery, so that should benefit the Wings. It doesn't hurt that Brian Burke is now back in the room and he's been a vocal opponent of the new format.

I'd complain about the lottery "screwing" the Avs twice but really...the players they came away with were argulably better than the ones they would've had if they had retained first or second overall.

So all that said, Owen Power might look good alongside Moritz Seider in a Wings uniform...assuming the draft doesn't get booted a year down the road.

Exactly what you said, Skip. Though I would add that you want to see growth from the kids, and I'm not entirely sure that Blashill is the guy for that.

Unlikely hat trick from Sam Gagner...

Ex-Red Wing and Canuck, Todd Bertuzzi, was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of Drink Driving. Bertuzzi flunked Field Sobriety tests and refused a Breath-Alyzer test. According to Auburn Hills, MI police the matter is still under investigation. Todd Bertuzzi is the uncle of current Red Wing, Tyler Bertuzzi.

Well, it's no secret Thomas Greiss is a VERY right-leaning individual, but I was unaware he posted a tribute to Rush Limbaugh on social media and it appears that the German National Team has quietly distanced themselves from him despite the fact that he's the second-best German goalie in the world at present.

As for this helmet design...yikes.

I don't know where he used those other masks. I really don't think the Red Wings could get away with bringing a closet nazi into Detroit. Bad idea, boys. This is the mask he uses for the Red Wings. There are no right-wing or nazi symbols on his helmet as near as I can tell. Where did you find the information that he was a right-winger, Tom? I went looking for some and I couldn't find any mention of it.

The Wings win two straight against Columbus to pull them into a 3-way tie for 2nd last place with Anaheim and Ottawa.

Hronek bombed another empty netter from 190 feet away. Both of his goals have come that way. It's comical how good he is at it. He leads the team in scoring with 20 points, but it's a really strange stat line.

Quote:
Prashanth Iyer
@iyer_prashanth
Filip Hronek leads the Wings in points with 20 but boy is it an odd collection of points:

2 empty net goals
14 secondary assists
2 EV primary assists
1 PP primary assist
1 empty net primary assist

DDK and Biega waived.

Merrill shipped to Montreal for a Verbeek and a 4th.

Nemeth back to Colorado for a 4th.

Wings eat some salary on Savard and trade Lashoff in a 3-team deal that nets them a...you guessed it. 4th rounder.

Glendening, Helm, Bernier and probably lots of others still available.

Ryan out for the season.

Really good return on Mantha who is still only 25 and hopefully has lots of good hockey left. He's got a lot of tools. Vrana can be signed and kept(same age as Mantha), or signed, has a good to great season and dealt again. Sad to see him go, but that's the reality of Detroit's situation.

Cost move for Washington since Panik is making ~3x3 and Vrana is due a raise from his 3M.

Lebrun said to look at it as two deals:

Mantha for Vrana and a 2nd

Panik's contract for a 1st as sweetener

Him being on the Caps, I hope you're wrong and he doesn't have a lot of good hockey left. :P I hate them. A lot.
