The Detroit Red Wings open their 95th season after finishing one of their all-time worst in 2019-2020. They have named Dylan Larkin the 37th team Captain and the first Michigan native to hold that position. They will face off against the Carolina Hurricanes tonight in Detroit. There is cautious optimism that this year's team, while nowhere near being in contention for a playoff spot, will hopefully be much more competitive. Their defence which was just horrible last season looks to be much better with an infusion of NHL calibre defensemen. Goaltending also looks to be solidified while the offence is still an area that needs a lot of help. I am hoping we will get to see a bit more of Moritz Seider although Steve Yzerman seems to be happy to leave him in Sweden for the season along with our most recent #1 pick, Lucas Raymond. I am looking forward to hopefully seeing noticeable improvement from this team this season if not a higher place in the standings.

According to analytics, Jimmy Howard had, like, the absolute worst season any NHL goaltender has ever had. Hard to say there's anywhere to go but up for Detroit.

It was all worth it if Lucas Raymond ends up being a star, right?

Happy to see Larkin get recognition.

Really bad first outing against Carolina. Given that a bunch of guys haven't played a game since March, and that this is going to be a bad team, a slow start will be expected. I'm fully expecting to be near the basement again, but hopefully not at a historical level again.

Seider looks absolutely drool-worthy. His style is evoking memories of Kronwall and Vladdy.

Detroit recovers from that horrible first game against Carolina with a win, and then a daytime loss yesterday to Columbus. They started out really well but couldn't keep it going.

Bobby Ryan already with 3 goals in his first two games.

Love the storyline of Larkin leaving tickets for Werenski's parents since away players can't request tickets. Then Larkin and Werenski fighting. Only in hockey.

It shouldn't bother me that the C and A patches are on the right side of the jersey, but it does.

And yes, I know, it was there in the olden days, and other teams have it there too in some instances.

They were teammates in Larkin's only U of M season, too.

The Red Wings played a really nice game tonight and beat Columbus 3-2 in OT. Bobby Ryan became the 1st Red Wing to ever score 4 goals in his first 3 games. Tyler Bertuzzi scored the winner off his leg. Jonathan Bernier was sharp in his second start and is 2-0 in this young season. The Red Wings still have a long way to go and they have not solved all their issues by any means but they are competing harder this season. Hopefully, there won't be any 4 to 7 game losing streaks this year. On to Chicago for a pair of games starting Friday night.

Hoo boy is this team bad. Their PP is absolutely horrendous and quite frankly if the younger guys aren't developing then its time to let Blashill go and get Gallant or Boudreau.

I knew it was going to be a rough couple of years going forward and patience would be required, but, this team and coaching staff is really testing me.

The rebuilding Wings have been screwed out of a top pick thus far, but the 2021 draft has three Michigan NCAA players projected to go top 10 and a Michigan commit: Power, Beniers, Johnson and Hughes.

Chance to get a guy with statewide cachet.

Nothing. He's playing well. The team in front of him is an entirely different matter.

It appears Blashill is pulling a Torts with Mantha. I don't get the endgame here.

Mantha's been floating again. The sitdown was just for one game. Mantha's back in the lineup tonight.

I have no idea. It's Pizza Hut. Outside of them calling that heart attack on a pan Detroit, they have nothing to do with the Red Wings.

I haven't had it but apparently Detroit-style pizza is unreal?
