Rasmussen and Christoffer Ehn(camp surprise) make the big squad while Zadina heads to the AHL for some seasoning.

Lots of kids to start the year on D, including 2017 first rounder Dennis Cholowski with injuries to Green, Ericsson and Daley. Joe Hicketts, Libor Sulak and Filip Hronek to get some looks. Sulak was noticeable on the ice when I watched briefly. Looking forward to it.

Open the season at home today against the Blue Jackets.

Fall 3-2 in OT to start the season. Wings weren't getting all that much done for the 1st period part that I watched. The wingers were collapsing too low, puck was getting kicked out to the point and not out of the zone, repeat.

From the replays it looked like Larkin and Nyquist were absolutely flying.

Cholowski with his first on a great read to hit the slot. Bertuzzi with the other. Larkin and Nyquist with the apples on both.

I think it's going to be a long season.

I was walking out of Leila's gymnastics a couple of weekends back and said to a guy wearing a Wings hat "Nice hat". His response was "Thanks. Gonna be a long season."

Yikes. Bernier looked as bad last night as he did during the postseason.

We can't win faceoffs. You have to be able to win faceoffs to win regularly in the NHL. This could end up being a long rebuild if we can't fix that issue.

Actually, that's a bit of a myth. Avs led the league in faceoff wins in 2016-17 and were dead last by a mile in the standings. The following season they were dead last in faceoffs by a mile but made the playoffs. Faceoff prowess is wildly overrated. Obviously it's a problem if you're never the team that starts out with the puck, especially in the defending zone, but it's not a dealbreaker by any means.

Jonathan Bernier's first performance in net for the Detroit however...

The people who run Little Caesars Arena are realizing one year too late that red-colored seats were a very bad idea.

Wings D at a glance:

Cholo - Sulak
Hicketts - Hronek
Kronwall - Jensen

Now that's a banged-up blueline.

I know one name on there very well, I kinda/sorta know the four other names, but I've never heard of Libor Sulak.

I'd rather have this and be playing the kids. Let em play. Wings are going to lose, anyways.

Yeah he was a suprise in camp and from the limited action I saw was actually pretty noticeable, for whatever that's worth.

Nice to see Tatar do well though. Love that guy and thought he was better than what happened in Vegas.

Wings claim F Jacob De La Rose from Montreal. Good pickup, even though he had a scary health incident before the season and may not be cleared to play yet.

Upside: He can skate, good size, can play defensively.

Downside: Really shies away from any kind of offensive or risky hockey.

Another day, another loss. To Tampa.

...and Detroit finally registers its first win of the 2018/2019 season against the only other winless team in the NHL, the Florida Panthers. It took OT to do it as well.
