Daaaaaamn...now that was a hockey game.

Avs post their first comeback win of the season. Down 3-1 in the 3rd they FINALLY convert on the power play to make it 3-2, then score with the extra attacker in the closing minutes to force OT. MacKinnon seals it with a nasty snipe from the left side.

Fun game, lots and lots of speed, hitting, and deft puckwork all around, unlike last night's slogfest in Nashville.

Abdelkader with another one, a nice deflection that I felt Bernier completely overcommitted on (he was sliding too far to the right and left about 90% of the net wide open). It wasn't a horrible goal but still feel that if you're a legit NHL goalie you should have that one. In any event he made up for it with some huge saves down the stretch.

Athanasiou with, you guessed it, a breakaway goal.

Howard was on his game tonight, was tested throughout. Avs had a couple terrible defensive breakdowns but otherwise this might have been their most consistent effort from start to finish.

Thanks for the recap.

I find it nearly impossible to fault a goalie on a deflected goal at the NHL level. Hell, at nearly any level of hockey its hard to. In the NHL shots come in so fast now that once you've committed or set then its nearly impossible to adjust at that kind of speed. Most goaltending now is being in the right position as the shot is released. If you're reacting too much you're dead in the water. You can have good positioning on tips/deflections but you still have to react, after the shot is released and after its tipped. Looks like Bernier had a bunch of traffic in front too.

Lose to a mad Oil team (or fail to show up and capitalize against a bad, reeling squad on the 2nd of a back to back after getting slaughtered the first game - take your pick). Outshoot the shit of the Rags as MSG and lose in OT to Lundqvist. Come back against the Devils and lose in OT.

Have to look for the video but during Altitude's pregame segment at Little Caesars, all the championship banners magically dropped in the background right behind Mike Haynes, who for some reason holds more than a fair bit of disdain for the Red Wings. If the rink crew did that on purpose I give them absolute props for an ace job of trolling.

Habs get a bit of an ego boost from the Wings.

On the anniversary of the inverse happening and the goalie getting run out of town, no less. Unfortunately for the Wings, Mrazek will be sticking around.

Sometimes I wonder how many more Cup(s) the Wings might have won if that game hadn't have happened. Would the trade still have gone down with Mtl-Col?

And if the limo accident didn't happen? Add Fischer too? All 3 of those things?

One of the stories I hear from time to time about the aftermath of that game was that Montreal called Detroit to offer them, Patrick Roy, before they called Pierre Lacroix and Colorado. The Red Wings didn't believe it so they let the deal pass them by. It would have been really interesting what Detroit would have been willing to give to Montreal in exchange for Roy if that story is true. It's also sort of fun to wonder the number of Stanley Cups Detroit might have won with Patrick Roy in net.

The heat on Detroit Red Wings Head Coach, Jeff Blashill, and to some degree, General Manager Ken Holland, is getting hotter. In these two articles, the players take the blame for their recent poor performances. Still, the word around the hot stoves in Detroit has Jeff Blashill dangling on a string because he's had plenty of time to work everyone into his system but the Red Wings are still progressing backwards in terms of development and in winning. Ken Holland might be in danger as well as for the first time in his career as GM he is performing his duties as GM without his usual contract extension already in place.

Unfortunately, the guy that they needed was Boudreau.

I see Holland making a graceful exit. Unfortunately two guys who would've been ideal replacements went to Tampa Bay and Dallas, respectively. Who would be next in line?

BTW has it been mentioned on here that Babcock and Blashill have almost the same exact voice?

Well, Holland's exit will have been anything but graceful based on what he's saddled this team with for the next few years....but I get what you mean.

Wings wake up and come out to a roaring start against the Jets. Jets recover some, Wings don't capitalize on some 5-on-3s but score 3 unanswered in the 3rd period.

Yikes! If Ken Holland were available, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned up for the President/GM role in Vancouver replacing LinBenning...

Oh hey look the Wings lose another in OT.

Marchand's pass to set up the game-tying goal was perfect and the OT backhand winner was nice from a pretty bad angle.

Whoa, did Blashill call out his old mentor for his clutch-and-grab ways after their win against the Maple Leafs?

Weird take by Patrick O'Sullivan, who calls Mrtn Frk a safety hazard after Dan Girardi takes a shot high from him and has to leave the game. I get that the guy's accuracy isn't exactly great but...safety hazard?

Mikael Samuelsson and Mathieu Schneider used to be like that.

Girardi went down to the ice to block the shot and was knee down squatting when it hit him. Scary for sure but if you know a guy shoots high and he may not know where it's going(hell, even if he does), maybe don't drop so low to the ice to block it?

Wings ring off a 4-game win streak with Jimmy playing really well, then lose to Tampa.

Lose to Pitts 4-1 then shut out Chi 4-0. Bertuzzi with his first and Pierre Turgeon's kid Dominic makes his debut.

Little Bert is here to stay. Created the plays and set up both goals in last night's 4-2 loss to the Stars. The bomb to Athanasiou was a really nice display of patience and awareness.

15 shots on goal!? 15!?

I don't get it. This team should be better than this, even with their obvious deficiencies.
