Bernier. Fine, whatever, someone needs to play in net.

Ouellet bought out. Ok. Probably wasn't going anywhere in the org with the old vets still under contract. Hicketts ready and hopefully Hronek to take over the PP soon. Get Saajarvi some fucking ice time.

Green brought back which I'm ok with. Vanek I'm not. They have kids who should be playing. This is completely ignoring the FUCKING TRADE PROTECTION THAT HOLLAND GAVE BOTH. My god.

Ken fills the shit out of his cap space before signing Larkin, Mantha and AA. Fan fucking tastic.

We saw Vanek in Vancouver last year and he put up some numbers (think he was on a 25 goal pace). Dude can still play. He wanted to stay and asked for a two year deal. The Canucks said no and moved him at the deadline. But to offer trade protection to a 35 year old? Wait what?

He can put up some numbers and help the PP but man is he slow and shot numbers are not favourable at all despite o-zone deployment(as far as I can recall anyways). Rather see a kid play and get the RFA contracts worked out than commit to Vanek with trade protection.

AA gets $3M. Thought he'd be trade bait.

Thought me might be. Might still be. They need his speed and skill though. Badly. Even if he doesn't tilt the ice in terms of shots, he'll be useful on the PK and he can actually score.

$6,127,956 without accounting for the ~4 mil that will be LTIR for Franzen. $10M should be enough for Larkin and Mantha.

Kenny is singlehandedly keeping the bridge deal concept alive.

Larkin re-signed: 5 years, $6.1M AAV

Potential bargain for a franchise player in his prime years, but he still has some growing to do.

A rebuilding team really shouldn't have the highest payroll in the NHL but what can ya do...

Wow, they passed the Blues! That being said, Franzen 3.94M will go on IR, and do we know about Hank's 6M decision yet?

If both guys are out by 2019-2020, they'll go into that offseason with potentially 30M in cap space. No big pending RFAs either.

Not so sure about franchise player but I definitely like this deal. I would have been fine with longer at that AAV too, I think.

Quote:
Zetterberg, who turns 38 on Oct. 9, underwent back surgery in spring of 2014. He has played three straight 82-game seasons, but last year was a struggle, especially as the season wore on.

“He didn’t practice the last two, two-and-a-half months of the season, he just played games,” Holland said.

I didn't realize just how bad his back was...I didn't know he didn't practice for that long. And once you've finished the season and have wound down a bit, getting back to the grind and get into shape when it's time to can be tough. Short offseasons. Still, everyone will be suspicious if he LTIRs it.

Someone showed all the big money deals for UFAs in the summer of 2016 and the best one was pretty much...Frans Neilsen. Small victories!

Dude was somehow +1 last year. +/- man...

That's when I started hating Snow. Fucking moron let Nielsen & Okposo walk and replaced them with older, slower guys. Good thinking Snow. Dick bag.

Cost him his job and the team their franchise player, basically. Round two was as close as they ever got.

Forgive me if I'm a bit suspicious, only because this sets the stage for him to make a Hossa-like exit. Even Henrik himself has publicly admitted his current deal was one he didn't expect to finish out when he signed it.

That's fine though--I don't really want to see Z get shafted any more than I wanted to see Hossa get embarrassed. But I do wonder if the league will ever finally put their foot down and a team finally has to pay the recapture penalty. The deals for Suter and Parise sure seem like a safe bet if so.

It sounds more and more like Zetterberg will be gone for the season. Apparently he hasn't been able to start getting any work in because of how bad his back is.
