Here is the view from Detroit. Mike Illitch, more than just about anyone, has been the prime mover in the rebirth of Detroit. I hope the Red Wings don't pull a decline like they did with the Bruce Norris / Dead Wings ownership years. It's also too bad he did not get to live to see the Tigers win a World Series Championship.

Very sad news. One of the best owners in sports history.

Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press writes a very nice article about Mike Illitch. I learned something new today. Mike Illitch very quietly paid Rosa Parks' rent while she lived in Detroit. He never said a word about it.

While this is sad, and he was one of the greatest, I am really trying to resist writing "R.I.Pizza Pizza." Glad I was able to resist.

Youth hockey back home in Colorado didn't even have a Mini-Mites division, it started around my 3rd year of Mites (we're talking over 30 years ago) or so when I was too old for it. The first Mini-Mite teams we had were sponsored by Little Caesars. I hadn't even heard of them until that happened. I believe they were always huge sponsors of youth hockey.

RIP, Mike. I wish you could have seen your Tigers win a championship. Thank you for all of the joy your team has given me over the years, and for everything you've done for everyone else as well.

I don't know much about Chris Illitch but I hope that if he's CEO and president of Illitch Holdings that he has some of the same vision as Mike did.

Yes, Little Caesar's played a huge part of growth of youth hockey. One of the major original driving forces in youth hockey in Michigan? Colleen Howe.

We had a Little Caesar's in Milton and I liked their pizza long before I knew that you owned my favorite hockey team and started Little Caesar's.
