Sheahan's rumoured to be on the block. 1st round pick for him? Sure, take that deal.

But this isn't the fucking time to be selling low on your underperforming young players. Deal the fucking vets, Kenny.

Give the Isles a call and see if they want Neilsen back for Grabovski or Kulemin.

Helene previously suggested that the Wings protect Coreau and not Mrazek. Which is absolute lunacy.

DDK doesn't need protecting. Wings should protect an additional young defenseman(Oullet, Sproul, Jensen). If Vegas wants DDK, they are more than welcome to him and Wings get to protect a young D. If they don't take him, then he stays and we keep another young D.

Loyalty has been a big part of the Red Wings organization, but they need to expose guys like Kronwall, Ericsson, DDK, Helm, Abdelkader and Glendening if they need spots to protect younger guys. Vegas takes one of them? Fine, you've just lost a bad contract and kept an additional young player. They don't take one? You've at least protected a young player even though they're still on the books. Showing loyalty, while you need to rebuild, is not a good reason to protect a bad contract and risk losing a young asset.

Smith was traded to the Rangers for the above picks. The 2018 2nd round pick was obtained by the Rangers from Ottawa.

Sorry, forgot to mention he was traded to the Rangers for those picks.

Oh he made 4 or 5 bigger mistakes than signing Ott. It was a completely unnecessary signing for only $800k so it's not even close to some of the others. :chris18:

6th round pick for him though. great.

Vanek for only a fucking third?? Roman Fucking Polak got two 2nds last year. Look at Hanzal's price. Fuck off.

Ok, so Vanek for a 3rd and useless pile of steaming garbage Dylan McIlraith, Detroit retains 50% salary.

What a godawful, terrible move. Vanek might not do much besides produce offense, but that also happens to be the most difficult part of the game.

Vanek's been moved around a lot in recent years. Maybe that suppressed his value a bit?

He also has a bad reputation for being a playoff no-show.

Here's the Sportsnet take on why he brought so little return.

Holland didn't do well enough, or teams are too short-sighted, or both.

You've got a slow guy who can put up great offensive numbers with sheltered deployment, and on the PP(though he's not a possession-driver). He's done this on a bad team. A better team could make even better use of him. And it's not like he had a big cap hit at $2.6M total for the year, pro-rated for the rest of the year with Detroit retaining half.

McIlrath is nothing. Holland managed to pull a 3rd for Jurco but couldn't get a better pick or prospect for Vanek? I don't think Holland got enough. Unless he thinks McIlrath is more than based on his draft position, in which case he's misjudged and still didn't get enough.

Zetterberg, on a bad Wings team, is quietly putting together a really good season. And he's doing it with the Wings being terrible on the PP.

Wings win in OT 3-2 over the Wild with an Athanasiou breakaway goal. 2nd game of the wonderful 3 in 3 tonight!

Athanasiou with his 2nd OT winner in 2 nights. 4-3 over Carolina. Mantha with 2 breakaway goals.

Mantha's made the most of his opportunity this season: 17 goals and 36 points in 59 games

Not surprisingly, Vanek has been a bust in Miami so far: 1 goal in 14 games

He can hang on the beach in April and be the coolest doudche* bag around.

mixture of dude and douche. Works better when pronounced. This is my first attempt at spelling it. Dudche?

Mantha busted his finger in a fight during last night's 5-3 loss to Tampa. That blows. Was hoping that maybe he could hit 20 goals or 40 points before the end of the season.

Mantha really adapted nicely to the NHL this season. His roster spot on the Red Wings is secure for next season. He could become be a real beast in a couple of years if he hits the weights regularly during the summer.

Yup. He's already very good. I'll say it right now he'll be the Wings' best forward next season. His reach is crazy. You'll see him coming in where it seems a puck or player seems so far away, but there he is.

Svechnikov with the shootout winner in his first NHL game. Good stuff :) 5-4 over OTT.

Nyquist and Tatar have been on a roll lately.
