Bill Gadsby, one of the toughest men to ever play in the NHL, a survivor of the U-Boat sinking of the passenger liner Athenia, died on Thursday, March 10, 2016, at 88. Gadsby, when he retired, held the league record for scoring by a defenseman with 586 points. Gadsby played for Detroit for 5 years in the 1960's. He also played for the New York Rangers and the Chicago Black Hawks. Gadsby was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1970.
