Lost to Tampa last night. Play the Panthers tonight.

Having trouble scoring goals. Solution? Sit one of your best pure shooters in Pulkkinen and play stone hands Andersson. For fucks sake. That's not going to fix your goal scoring problems, Blashill. You're smarter than that.

Welp. Lost to the Panthers 6-3. Larkin nearly dragged the Wings all the way back from a 3-0 deficit but no dice.

We lost to two of the top teams in the Atlantic on the road on back to back nights. I'm not worried.

Recover from the previous 6-3 loss and beat Florida 3-0. Datsyuk with 2 after he and Zetterberg asked Blashill to play together.

Luke Glendening: 16:33
Darren Helm: 17:08

Athanasiou: 5:50
Jurco: 7:06
Nyquist: 11:05
Tatar: 10:41

If I'm going to complain, I'm not really enjoying this part, though. Take away the PK time and Glen/Helm still saw over 10 minutes or so of EV. That's not pretty that they're getting so much more time over these 4. Helm on the PP over Jurco and Sheahan too...not sure I agree with that decision.

3-1 over Ottawa. Unfortunately Detroit did their best to break Mrazek's shutout by taking 4 penalties in the third period, including a brief 5-on-3. Ottawa got their goal on a dumb, lazy penalty by Tatar to grab the sweater of a guy without the puck on a backcheck.

Ottawa had 3 glorious chances that were taken away by defensive plays.

Larkin didn't find an awesome way to score on Anderson again, unfortunately.

Phaneuf with some solid beer league defense on this goal.

Getting crossed up by Nyquist.

Any of you catch last night's Avs/Wings game? Scoreboard suggests it was a pretty even match. But going by shot counts in the 1st alone, that wasn't necessarily true.

Didn't catch much. Vintage Avs under Roy. Varlamov.

I caught bits and pieces. Varlamov was the difference. He was a brick wall. The shot differential was real. Detroit dominated play and spent most of the time in the Avalanche end. It would have been a Red Wing blowout except for Varlamov. It was a pleasure to be able to watch that great goaltending performance.

The Wings are so streaky this year. The minute you think that maybe they have turned the corner and will start playing with some consistency they go and play a stinker like last night. At least, Mantha is finally coming around in Grand Rapids. If he's found his touch he could really help us offensively.

OT win over Dallas, 3-2. Howard was fucking awesome. Two amazing games in a row.

Athanasiou. My god. The goal on the left was last night. The speed and ability to handle the puck at top speed on this kid...He's already a penalty-drawing machine too.

Niemi is a weird fucking goalie.

Jamie Benn is a goddamn beast. Dallas got away with a ton of shit.

I could watch Mike Green skate around with the puck all day long.

Is AA another draft steal for the Wings?

Looking like it. Taken in the 4th round in 2012. Frk went in that same draft in the 2nd round:

From our very own Bruce:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5432&p=67216&hilit=Athanasiou#p67216

Quote:
They picked up Athanasiou in the fourth who was also highly touted in pre-season and had a huge Ivan Hlinka, easily the top Canadian forward heading into the year. He's got a lot of skill but is said to be very hockey sense-deficient. He played a depth role for London so we'll see if it was more his play defined by his role and not the other way around.

Curious to hear what happened with him in London.

After 2 losses to the Hawks, the Wings have a 2-point lead over Philly for the 2nd wild-card spot. Gotta beat the Jackets tonight.

The playoff streak is going to end sooner or later. The Red Wings have been flirting with not making the playoffs for the past 2 to 3 years and are only a borderline playoff team anyway. The back to back losses to Chicago showed they are not anywhere near being a true Stanley Cup winning contending team. They look like they need to miss the playoffs for a bit so they can start to stockpile some higher end talent that only comes from drafting in the top 1 to 10 places. Making the playoffs and then getting eliminated in the 1st round won't do it if they keep getting picks in the lower end of the draft. That's a recipe for mediocrity.

Really? Philly is that close with that train wreck of a defense and slipshod goaltending? Either the East is really that weak or I underestimated the Flyboys.

Neuvirth playing really well and Mason looks to be about average.

Hakstol must also be doing something right in addition. Of course they have a pretty amazing forward corps, so that helps.
