Looks like we might as well get this started since Datsyuk will miss the start of the season due to the ankle surgery :x :x

"Doctors say four-five months. So we'll see," Datsyuk said. "I hope I just miss a little early in the season. The rehabilitation time after surgery in June was estimated first 4-6 weeks, but has thus proved to be much longer than that."

I wonder why it took so long(nearly 2 months) after the end of the season to have the surgery. Trying to rehab without surgery?

This was my understanding although I can't remember a proper link.

So Johan Franzen has been cleared to start the year. He was in a scary situation last season after suffering the latest of what is an estimated double-digit concussion count throughout his playing career.

There are many Wings fans who are, quite simply, scared as hell for his future health and not just his playing career. I sincerely hope that the Mule is completely healed from his latest concussion and able to resume a healthy life and playing career.

If he gets dinged again, he needs to stop. He should probably stop now anyway.

Holy shit. It appears that Larkin has made the team, for now. Datsyuk's injury must have been a factor in that.

AA shouldn't be far behind  Greeced Lightning lit up the pre-season.

Datsyuk and Helm start the year on the shelf, along with DDK. Ferraro and Larkin start the year up with Oullet for the time being.

So the lines at the start of the Carolina game:

Larkin-Zetterberg-Abdelkader
Franzen-Sheahan-Pulkkinen
Tatar-Richards-Nyquist
Miller-Glendening-Ferraro

Blashill made a switch and they became:

Nyquist-Zetterberg-Abdelkader
Tatar-Larkin-Pulkkinen
Richards-Sheahan-Franzen
Miller-Glendening-Ferraro

The Tatar-Larkin-Pulkkinen would be pretty fun. Everyone on that line is more than willing to pull the trigger, but all three can make passes. I wouldn't mind seeing Richards or Sheahan continue to play with Pulkkinen, especially on the PP. They can find passing lanes if Pulk can get open.

Richards looked slow with Tatar and Nyquist. I honestly thought it was Andersson until I realized Franzen was playing and so Andersson must have been sitting.

I'd love to see Jurco in soon, somehow as long as it isn't injuries. Helm and Datsyuk are still hurt. That's some great-looking depth when they come back.

When Datsyuk, Helm and DeKeyser return to the lineup the Red Wings are going to have to waive some people or Ken Holland will have to work some trade magic.

Yup.

Jurco draws in for Ferraro.

Franzen put on the IR with the return of concussion symptoms :x :(

Please retire. For the sake of your family, please get out now while you still have working brain function.

Helm and DDK draw back into the lineup after recovering from injuries.

Scratches were Jurco, Ferraro and Smith.

Franzen's a pretty funny dude. Still appears to be in good spirits, at least.

Green(shoulder?), Quincey(uncalled Bennet headshot?) and Richards out tomorrow. Jurco draws in. Marchenko or Ouellet up?

Green is expected back in the next game or two, I believe.

Datsyuk, Richards, Franzen and Quincey all still out.

Green is back, Datsyuk soon too hopefully.

Howard was removed from the Dallas game but Blashill said it was only precautionary.

Athanasiou made his debut and apparently did not look out of place :D

Smith and Richards are back. Franzen to LTIR. AA to Grand Rapids, I believe.

Jurco has also gone down to GR, which is disappointing. Even when he's not scoring I like the things he does on the ice. Unfortunately, he seems to be getting pushed off of the depth chart with not enough offensive minutes to go around(even though the team is having trouble coming by goals).

Jurco scores 2 more. 5-4-9 in 4 games in Grand Rapids.

Jurco is back up with the big club and getting some PK reps in practice. I love that.

Wings fans are pointing out that Miller and Glendening are the guys getting scored on in the third while protecting leads. They get clobbered on possession and generate little to no offense. They are, however, the main cogs in the 4th-ranked PK. Blashill has decreased their usage against top competition(at least that's what I've read - haven't verified that one), which is good, but they are still a black hole. Helm's offense seems to be quickly drying up as well, which is disappointing. I like Miller and Glen, but if guys can be effective PKers while generating more at 5-on-5, I'd like to see them get reps. Teams are made up of all kinds of players, but skilled guys can still PK.
