@Frank_LeBlanc Yes. Wings qualified all nine of their RFAs: Nyquist, Jurco, Smith, Pulkkinen, Ferraro, Coreau, Jensen, Callahan, Aubry.

Another guy who might be interesting on a one-year deal. Any gas left in the tank?

Probably. Better than Rinaldo.

Perhaps Weiss will sign with Metallurg and reunite with his favorite coach Mike Keenan.

As long as Holland doesn't use the fucking cap space savings to re-sign Cleary when no one else will...

Wings use the Weiss cap space savings for this year to sign Richards. Richards' defensive numbers were awful going back to his Dallas days if I remember correctly. I'm guessing that they aren't relying on him for that. Be the 3C behind Datsyuk and Sheahan? Split Datsyuk and Zetterberg? Wings had a beastly PP last season but 5-on-5 needed improvement. Will Richards help that? Hopefully Green will.

11 forwards signed with Nyquist, Jurco, Ferraro and Pulkkinen needing contracts as well. Callahan and Aubry as well but they aren't going to be with the Wings to start the season. Will someone be dealt? Start the year in GR?

7 D signed: Green, Kronwall, Ericsson, Quincey, Kindl, DDK, Smith. 1 or 2 have to go. There is no way both Ouellet and Marchenko should be starting in GR.

TSN dudes were saying Datsyuk would like to spend more time playing the wing where it's not as physically demanding. Richards could play with him.

I can't imagine it'd be terribly hard to dump Quincey since he's only got 1 year left, but I really haven't seen how well or how badly he's played the last couple seasons.

I don't have an opinion from what I watched this season but apparently was pretty steady this year. Improved over previous years.

If Richards has been that bad defensively for 8+ years, there's no way they move Datsyuk off to the wing to play Richards on the same line at center.

Is Richards still any good? Is this a good signing?

Well...he was a .5 PPG forward last year, not sure how sheltered he was or how much his linemates may have carried him. I guess it comes down to how the coach utilizes him and who his linemates are.

Certainly a better gamble than Weiss in any event. He could be Bernie Federko, or he could be Mike Modano.

Quincey has quietly become a steady, stay at home, defenseman. For the first time in his career, I am glad he is playing for Detroit. He used to drive me absolutely crazy with bone headed plays. Not anymore. He's a keeper.

I am fine with the Richards signing. He has been in the last two Stanley Cup Finals and has two Stanley Cup rings and a Conn Smythe Trophy. That is always a good guy to have around.

There are some analytics that say that Kindl is a good defenseman. Especially the HERO chart. You figure that a team with an analytics department might have taken a chance and acquired him last season for the 1+ year left on his contract, but I guess not. It'll be interesting to see where he fits this season with 7 D along with Ouellet and Marchenko.
