That is probably the best way to put it. The Red Wings just finished a 6 game road trip featuring Chicago, Dallas, Anaheim, Los Angeles, San Jose and Nashville. They finished the trip 4 - 1 - 1, while taking 9 out of 12 points. I am quite pleased with the result as I would have thought, with this young team, that taking 6 out of 12 would have been a perfectly acceptable result especially considering the teams the Red Wings had to play. Detroit have also finished up a 2 month gift from hell from the NHL scheduling office with 19 out of 26 games on the road in January and February. This sort of thing really should not happen to any team. The NHL simply can do a better job of it's scheduling. No team should have to put up with this type of schedule. This is just bad work by the NHL. BTW, The Red Wings finished up this chore at 17 - 7 - 2. Well done lads. Now Detroit hits the home stretch with 12 of 21 at home and only 1 game, at Minnesota, out of the Eastern Time zone. At 81 points they look well poised to crack the 100 point barrier and finish in the top three of the Atlantic Division. Injuries look a mild concern with Zetterberg, Quincey, Franzen and now Darren Helm out for a bit. Only Franzen looks to be long term so really the outlook is fairly positive for the stretch run up to the playoffs. I'm hopeful that trade deadline day is quiet for Detroit. There is nobody left available that I would choose to give up either a prospect or a top 3 draft pick for. Grand Rapids seems to have a ready supply of NHL ready prospects to fit into our lineup to cover for injured players. I think the Red Wings can wait until free agency this summer to pick up additional help, a right hand shooting defenseman.
