Think it is a big year for Mantha to show he can score playing with men in the AHL or fall back to that of a role player.

Yup. Really hoping that he puts it together this year.

Recent article about Mantha: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=779040

Having Blashill with the big club could really help him once he's up there. Someone who knows him well.

The expectations on him after his huge final year of juniors were crazy. If he was so polished and pro-ready, he probably would have gone a lot higher than #20. Gotta have patience.

I like what I've read about Blashill so far as a teacher and motivator of young players. Hopefully it will translate at the NHL leve as well with the veterans.

I'm really hoping for a big bounceback year from Ryan Sproul as well.

It wouldn't shock me if the Wings had a down year (Hank and Datsyuk being a year older) but made some important strides for the long-term.

Could be. Though it wouldn't have been shocking for the past 3 seasons, especially the two where they had insane injuries to deal with. Young guys pressed into action because of injuries to the vets(Fuck, in 13-14 Franzen was playing center at some points). I wouldn't have minded seeing some veteran D moved to make room for Ouellet and Marchenko, but that's never been how Holland has operated.

Dunno. He was a healthy scratch the other day.

He, along with everyone else, has started putting up points now that they're winning.

Quote:
As for the reasoning to sit Mantha, coach Todd Nelson said, "It was just a coach's decision. He's healthy, he's all good. But it was just my decision and Frkey hasn't played in a bit, and it was nice to see him get the game-winner tonight."

When I posted this, the Griffins had only 3 wins in 12 games. They have now won 11 in a row!

Three games in three day stretch? happens often in AHL and teams will sit guys a game with no punishment undertones involved.

Oh and sounds like Mantha is getting back on track which should be a relief to Wings fans.

Yup. Expectations were sky-high among the majority of the fanbase after his final year of Juniors. His busted leg at the start of his pro career sucked. Hopefully he's on track. With his size and skill, I really hope to see a dominant year.

Wings acquire Dylan Sadowy, days away from re-entering the draft, from the San Jose Sharks for a 3rd-round pick and sign him up.

Svechnikov to make his debut tonight wearing #37. May he be better than Mikael Samuelsson and Doug Janik.

Long-time Grand Rapids Griffin/Red Wings farmhand/1st round pick Tom McCollum lends his truck to a former teammate's teammate so he can be there for the birth of his first child.
