Oh yay. Ken Campbell weighs in on the Wings.

Quote:
And this is where things get interesting. I’m told the asking price from the Sabres for Myers is prospect Dylan Larkin, a roster player along the lines of a Riley Sheahan or Tomas Jurco, and a first-round pick. That seems like an awful lot for an underachieving player who still has five years on his deal with a cap hit of $5.5 million per season.

Mattias Backman is none too happy.

Someone on HF who says he's seen the kid play had this to say: "Soft as wet toilet paper."

Detroit has a glut of prospect defenseman. I'm not sure that they anticipated the huge strides that Jensen has made, and they do carry two vets on the Grand Rapids roster in Paetsch and Brennan Evans.

Man, Brennan Evans. Dude is approaching 800 AHL games and still the only NHL action he ever got was playing like 5 minutes over two games against Detroit in the 2004 playoffs for Calgary because they were out of defencemen.

A piece on Joe Hicketts, who went from being undrafted this past summer to signed by the Wings, and then a gold medal winner as the only non 1st or 2nd round pick defenseman on the team(and only 18 years old).

Teemu Pulkkinen has set the record for Grand Rapids scoring in his 8th straight game. The Holy Slapper(not quite sure where the name cam from) is a righty, by the way.

Redwingscentral, founded by Matthew Wuest probably better known for creating the amazing capgeek.com, is also now offline. :x :x redwingscentral was an amazing place to go for Wings prospect updates and news. Best of luck to Matt.

Pulkkinen has been lighting it up in Grand Rapids since going down for the All Star break. 4 goals(3 via a hat trick), 5 assists for 9 points in 5 games. He's taken the AHL goal and point leads.

Bosc's favorite player Matthew Barnaby said he had the chance recently to watch Dylan Larkin in action and was effusive with praise today on NHL Radio with Scott Laughlin, said he was more or less Darren Helm with more scoring upside. I'd take that.

I guess I can take that in different ways. That he's so good an dumbass can recognize it. Or a dumbass thinks he's good.

Mitch Callahan goes down for the rest of the season wtih a torn ACL. He was a guy that I think a lot of Wings fans would have absolutely loved if he could make the big club, but this injury in his 4th season in the AHL is really tough.

Tons of speed and hands on this guy. Andreas Athanasiou, 4th rounder.

Larkin has the most points by a Michigan freshman since Montreal's non-star Max Pacioretty in 07-08, with Larkin doing it in 8 less games.

Does he turn pro after 1 season at U of M? Or does he go the usual 3 years like Howard, Abdelkder and Nyquist? I would lean towards 1 year, not 3.

Pacioretty only played his freshman year before moving on to Hamilton. I think if they can get Larkin into the AHL it's worth it for his development.

And Mantha's only having a so-so season in GR. I'm not entirely surprised; he's a big galoot who isn't the best skater. Plenty of time for him to improve.

Fractured tibia isn't exactly the best way to start out, either.

He started out the year taking a ton of penalties too, but has basically pulled a mid-season Stan Mikita.

Heatley wasn't the greatest skater, was he? Neither is Corey Perry. That's the dream ceiling for Mantha, anyways, without the douchbagness. Dude has great hands too. Eric Daze?

Mrazek dominating after going back to Grand Rapids. 5-0 with 3 shutouts and a total of 4 goals against.

Pulkkinen with a hat trick last night after getting sent down. 33 goals in 46 games in Grand Rapids.

2 goals in 12 games with Detroit. Nyquist and Tatar didn't come out guns blazing in their initial NHL looks either with similarly limited ice time. Hopefully Pulkk can carry over his AHL success into the NHL soon enough.

A prospect of another sorts made his debut in the Oilers-Wings game tonight: referee Evgeny Romasko. First Russian zebra in NHL history.

How'd he do?
