Mantha had a game winning OT goal and 2 helpers on Tuesday night leading Val-d'or to a 3 - 0 series lead over Acadie-Bathurst in their first round playoff series. I am personally getting excited to see this kid when he makes it up to Detroit. Dwight's son was huge on Detroit picking him in last summer's draft. Looks like Dwight has a Junior scout in the making.

Mitch Callahan of the Griffins took a slapshot to the face. Warning: The pic is rather gruesome.

Sproul and Pulkkinen named to the AHL all-rookie team.

On top of Tatar and Nyquist, Grand Rapids graduated three more players to the Wings in Sheahan, Jurco and Glendening. Jarnkrok is playing regularly in Nashville.

Ferraro and Callahan are out of options next season.

Some scouts are saying that the Wings' final pick in 2011, Alexei Marchenko, looks like the best defenseman of Sproul, Oullet and him. Interesting.

Mantha's Val D'Or team lost in OT to powerhouse Halifax and is not down 3-2 in the Q semis. He's got 7 goals and 9 points in 5 games(6 of those goals in the 3 losses), 17-7-24 in 15 playoff games.

Mantha's Val D'Or team takes out Halifax. Looks like their goalie and Leaf pick, Antoine Bibeau, took that series over for them. 39 saves in a 3-2 win in game 7(VD only had 16 shots). In game 7, VD won 7-5 despite being outshot 43-32.

Hmm, looking at the standings, I thought Halifax finished pretty far ahead of VD.

Sask must be just thrilled.

A word on some prospects in Friedman's 30 thoughts:

http://www.cbc.ca/sports-content/hockey ... aters.html

Quote:
25. As for the next group of prospects, Holland indicated defencemen Mattias Backman and Xavier Ouellet may be NHL-ready. But QMJHL scoring sensation Anthony Mantha appears headed to the AHL, and it would be a surprise if they'd want goalie Petr Mrazek limited to 25 games backing up Jimmy Howard. Can't see Detroit offering Jonas Gustavsson more than a one-year contract, though. Might have to look elsewhere if he wants longer term.

The Val D'Or Foreurs won the Q title tonight. Anthony Mantha was GPG not only during the regular season, but the playoffs too. He also scored the championship winning goal.

Off to the Memorial Cup, along with Tyler Bertuzzi of the Guelph Storm, another Wings prospect. Nice.

Jurco with a hat trick in the Griffin 5-2 victory over the Texas Stars, who outshot the Griffins 37-22. Does Jurco count as a prospect anymore?

I think Jurco still counts this year even though we should expect him to now dominate the A. More like prospect gravy at this point.

Mantha, BTW, did not get the QMJHL playoff MVP somehow. I'm sorry, I don't care how good the goalie was a forward going a goal per game in the playoffs should be an automatic win.

Ted Kulfan, of the Detroit News, rates Detroit's top prospects. Not surprisingly, Mantha (RW), Mrazek (G) and Ryan Sproul (D) top the list.

Take it for what it's worth:

Dreger said most recent request from Buff to Detroit for Myers was Larkin and Kindl. Said it's too much for Detroit.

I don't know much about Dylan Larkin but I doubt the Wings will part with the hometown kid unless the return is HUGE. I doubt Bosc would miss Amazon Kindl much.

Wow, at this point it seems like Kindl doesn't have much value at all. I've been under the impression that Buffalo has been asking for an insane package like one of Tatar/Jurco+Mantha+more. The Wings must be super high on Larkin.

He ain't a Red Wings prospect anymore, but thought you should know Nestrasil got his first NHL goal tonight on Reto Berra. Berra was pulled immediately afterwards.
