Detroit has $48M in cap space with Hronek and Vrana being the only potential bigger ticket salaries to get signed. Only one goalie under contract.

$28M to get to the salary floor.

Frankly, I thought Yzerman last offseason did not leverage his cap space enough. I hope this year is a change for some big moves because he has all 3 slots available. Keith could easily have been one, although the Oil may have been reluctant to deal picks as they have dealt a lot of 2-4 rounders.

Vancouver is a prime target to offer sheet Pettersson or to absorb multiple bad contracts for 1st+ if the offer sheet is not desired. Will not be pleased if for a second year in a row Yzerman doesn't make a move with Benning in a terrible cap situation. Make it happen.

Picking 6th and 23rd in the 1st round. 3 picks in the 2nd round, 2 3rd, 2 4th, 2 5th, a 6th.

Tons of draft picks to make a move or throw a lot of darts.

Francis and Benning are apparently talking about stuff ahead of the expansion draft. Yzerman not moving fast enough here.

The way I look at it, Yzerman built Tampa Bay and he's rebuilding us the right way. You have to have a willing partner to make any deal in professional sport. He knows more about building a team than I ever will. I think I'll just back off and let the man work.

I know, it's just hard to see this from afar and think that he can't be doing more.

Best of luck to Nick Leddy with his new team! Bummed to see him go, but figured this was coming.

Isles get Panik and a 2nd, with Detroit retaining half of Panik's salary.

This was a weird one. Detroit's going to have to get a good haul back for Leddy to make up the value of the 2nd round pick and whatever cap hit they end up retaining. This is definitely not what I had in mind. This isn't weaponizing cap space.

He's on an expiring contract. He should be a hell of a rental for someone. I think they'll get a good return.

Wings get a real-life goalie: Calder nom Alex Nedeljkovic from Carolina for Bernier and a third. Promptly signs for two years, 3M AAV.

Excellent deal. Bernier wasn't back and a third isn't too much. 2 years at $3M for a team not expected to contend is low risk to find out what they've got with him. People are talking about the 29GP but this isn't a 30-year old Kosinen for 3 years/$4.5M at a below-average sv% with McDavid in his prime.

Yep, love this deal for Detroit...no idea what in hell Carolina's thinking but that ain't Yzerman's problem, as he very clearly stated.

Detroit's first pick in the 2021 Draft at #6: Simon Edvinsson, Left Defense.

After a trade with Dallas, Detroit picks Sebastian Cossa, Goaltender, at # 15. Dallas received Detroit's first-round pick at 23, one of Detroit's remaining second-round picks and a fifth-round pick. Detroit still has 6 picks remaining in this year's draft.

Glendening walks after not being dealt at multiple trade deadlines. I get that he's a good role model for the kids, but geez.

2nd offseason in a row of not taking on bad money for assets from Vancouver.

All our bad money are belong to us now... Can't trade bad money and assets if you don't have the latter.

Tyler Bertuzzi isn't vaccinated and Yzerman isn't happy.

Yzerman joking with @HeleneStJames about her collecting a prize: "It's a doozy. It's actually a Red Wings mask that we use when interviewing Tyler (Bertuzzi)."

What do you do with him?

Quote:
"It's his decision," Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman said Wednesday. "I am not in a position to force anyone. We can't force anyone to get vaccinated. I personally am vaccinated, my family is vaccinated. I'll leave it at that.

Well this doesn't have anywhere to go yet but a truly entertaining game against the Lightning last night......Tyler Bertuzzi the unvaxed one with 4 goals.............however the Wings can't hold a 3 goal lead late in the 3rd and drop a 7-6 OT game to the Bolts.
