He's fine-ish, all things considered. He had a procedure in the offseason to help his irregular heartbeat, but it acted up again last week and he couldn't fly with the team.

When they're using the defibrulator have to wonder if it's career over. That was pretty close to the end for him.

Is it the same thing that ended Fischer's career?

Scary stuff :( Hopefully Peverly can at least get back to a normal life, let alone resume his hockey career.

I don't think that they're even certain of what happened to Fischer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ji%C5%99%C3%AD_Fischer

Quote:
Although the exact cause of Fischer's collapse remained unknown, team physician Tony Colucci indicated that Fischer's heart may have experienced either ventricular tachycardia, a type of racing heartbeat, or ventricular fibrillation, a heart fluttering.[2]

Ventricular Fibrillation can cause cardiac arrest.

The game where Fischer collapsed was also postponed.

Is it insecurity?

Yup. Inferiority complex. A dose of insanity. Hockey is "our game" and we want to believe that "our athletes" are tougher, more humble and dedicated than everyone else's in different sports.

Can NFL players be cut when they're injured? With no guaranteed contracts and extremely short careers, playing injured for NFL players is survival.

No surprise: Peverley has retired and will take a development role with the Stars.
