I don't get it--if Gagliardi is going to scoop them up (I assume) on the cheap because of this, why was he reportedly going to try and purchase it outright?

I think by acquiring the debt and becoming the main secured creditor the dude trying to buy basically secures his first offer on the table. then the Bankruptcy receiver can try and see if someone will pay more. But I'm not an expert on this stuff.

if its anything like Real Estate, they file for bankruptcy, they go to court, whoever wants to buy it, presents an offer. The judge first approves the offer then reads the offer, asks if anyone else can beat this offer, if no-one else does. Boom its yours.

I think if we pool our Kiva money we might just pull it off.

I've always broke even with my Kiva stuff. frankly it's the best investments I have anymore and I'm not going to mess with that.

I've made about 15 loans so far. All to Africa, 14 out of 15 to women. The 1 male I lent to stiffed me about 1/2 way through. All the women have paid back faithfully or early. I think 5 were for pubs. I'll keep right on re-lending regardless of the borrower's performance. I enjoy doing it. I hoped one day to visit at least one of the pubs I have lent to.
