How much longer is Torts' contract? I'd like to see him kept around to fuck this team up when they're back in the traditional Metro. :D

End of the season, which makes keeping him around even stranger, unless they're total misers.

Maybe they don't want to promote an interim coach and don't want to bother with quarantining someone for this year? Seems pretty dumb to trade for Laine and keep the asshole who keeps benching him.

If Lee is out the rest of the year, I keep hoping Torts will piss Laine off to the point that he demands a trade and the Isles can use Lee's LTIR space to fit him.

This season pretty much looks like it's lost, so Jarmo would be best concerned with gearing up for a retool. He's got a big decision to make regarding Elvis. Dude is extremely good, but also extremely injury-prone, and is going to demand a raise. Do you give it to him, or do you just stick with Korpisalo and take your chances?

As far as Torts goes...I dunno. Seems kinda pointless to try and shake things up now. The Jax made this bed, they gotta lie in it.

Deep dive in the Athletic as to why no one wants to play in Columbus:

1. Kekalainen plays hardball with RFAs, alienating them
2. Boring town if you're young, want to be a star
3. They've modernized, but less amenities than other franchises, including an old plane (since changed)
4. They don't market stars when they have them
5. Torts but not as much as you'd think. Players do appreciate his honesty

I hate the fact that I'm sharing a tweet from those fucking Barstoolies but this is awesome.

Even if Elvis doesn't have a stellar NHL career going forward (I think he will), he's already a legend in my books.

Well, what's old is new again. John Davidson returns to his old position as president of the Blue Jackets, and Jarmo Kekäläinen gets an extension.

I have more faith in those two turning things around in Lumbus than Drury does in New York. At least the former two don't have flaky-ass Larry Dolan hovering over them.

Good luck sir!

Jackets bring over gifted scorer Gregory Hofmann from Switzerland.

Good add for a team in need of scoring. Hope it works out better than perimetre Grigorenko.

If they trade Seth Jones and get some assets, they might be able to re-start the franchise quickly. Here's hoping.

He died slipping while trying to escape a hot tub after some fireworks malfunctioned. Damn.

AP News update: While police initially believed Matiss Kivlenieks died from a fall while trying to flee hot tub during fireworks malfunction, medical examiner now says he was struck by firework mortar and died of chest trauma.

Elvis Merzlikins was there, both goalies were at the home of Jackets goaltending coach Manny Legace in Michigan. They were there for July 4th celebrations and for the wedding of Legace's daughter.

Seth Jones is gone. Off to Chicago for picks and Boqvist. Jarmo then sent one of those picks to Carolina for Bean. They now have two good young defencemen and two top 12 picks.

Jarmo never stops. Not much choice in the matter.

They also bring back Jake Voracek in exchange for Cam Atkinson.

Man this offseason has been something.

I don't really get this move for Columbus. Higher AAV on an older player for one less year, and you lose one of the few guys who liked it there?

Columbus is the exact team that should throw some cash at Danault and Tatar. Weak up and the middle and on the left side, Domi is out till Christmas.
