God, felt like this day took FOREVER to get here.
https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/dal-vs-c ... _tab=statsAvs win in their home/season opener as well as Jared Bednar's NHL debut. Yes, NHL debut as he has never played or coached in the league. A 6-5 barnburner that didn't have a ton of great goaltending but plenty of scoring. Love watching these two teams face off (well, not last season, but the two before that were great).
I'm not gonna get too carried away, there were some bad defensive breakdowns but still nothing near as bad as what we witnessed last season. And someone on Twitter was kind enough to post that the new top pairing of Zadorov-Johnson was absolutely dominant after the first two periods. I want to say EJ had a rating of over 70%(!!!) but I can't quite remember. Bednar mixed and matched the pairings a little bit down the stretch, using Francois Beauchemin and Fedor Tyutin a little more in the third to help hold the lead.
Hat trick for former University of Denver standout Joe Colborne, who centered the third line between The Bourque (not) Brothers. MacKinnon and Barrie with two points apiece.
About the only player to NOT have a good game for the Avs was Blake Comeau, whom the Avs are calling "Lake Como" for some reason.
Anyway, four game road trip coming up against teams in Pittsburgh and Washington. No pressure.
