Figured I needed to retire the previous season/offseason thread.

Anyway, Rene Bourque will be attending Avs camp on a PTO.

You know when Ryan Lambert is saying nice things about the Avs' newest addition that's good news.

At this point I think Ray Bourque is probably a better bet than Rene to crack an NHL team.

Adrian Dater (yes, he's still around) speculated that he thinks Chris McFarland will eventually take the GM reins and Sakic will take the role of team president (currently held by Josh Kroenke). Not sure if there's any truth to this but it's plausible.

Well this is hilarious.

Summon ALL the Bourques! Are Chris and Ryan available?

Very well done.

Coverage of Bednar's introductory presser.

http://www.denverpost.com/2016/08/31/ja ... ossession/

Those, like me, who have been begging for the Avs to develop a system that favors possession will love to hear what Bednar had to say. Sounds like he's much more structured. Of course it could all be for naught but this is very encouraging.

They also said they're retaining all three assistants, but I can't see Dave Farrish lasting long past this season.

Nice to see the Avs were at least in on some of the Subban insanity. I'm fine with them not pulling the trigger since they didn't exactly have a Shea Weber to trade. Still, not many players I can think of I wouldn't part with to see Subban in an Avs jersey.

Varly confirms Francois Allaire will stay on for at least one more year. After that, who knows? Maybe Jean-Ian Filiatrault will be promoted from San Antonio.

I'm reading on HF the Avs made a couple analytics hires!!!!!

:snoop: :snoop: :snoop: :snoop: :snoop: :toot: :shlick"

:awesomecylon: :awesomecylon: :awesomecylon: :awesomecylon: :awesomecylon:

Apparently Arik Parnass's site focuses a lot on special teams performance, so this hire makes perfect sense. Avs have been rather lacking in the power play department for quite some time now.

The other guy, Zac Urback, no idea who he is.

Well...shit.

Mikko Rantanen to miss 2-4 weeks due to an ankle injury suffered during one of the rookie showcase games.

http://www.denverpost.com/2016/09/18/mi ... avalanche/

He was actually going to fill in at center during camp because Duchene, MacKinnon, and Soderberg are all at the World Cup.

In addition to Bourque and Bourque the Avs have also invited Jiri Tlusty to camp.

Proud Canadian and Avalanche player Matty Duchene is in the spotlight at the World Cup.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/matt-duche ... 25113.html

Without a doubt my favorite current Avs player, hope to get a jersey with his name/number on it, I keep waiting for them to change the design but those new 3rds are pretty snazzy so I might snag one of those.

In case you haven't seen this Av, check out his comments on the Avalanche development system, its about as critical as can be.

Huh...I did not see that. I think the writer gets a little carried away in the article and draws some strange conclusions, but yes, Rendulic was most definitely mishandled by Roy to start the season. He was given a roster spot to start the year and then put in a position to fail by being put on a line with 18-year-old Mikko Rantanen and new FA center at the time Carl Soderberg. Technically that was the third line, not the fourth, but they didn't get a lot of minutes, and were broken up soon afterwards. I pretty much lost all faith in Roy at that point...he really didn't look like he knew what he was doing. Taking your brand new two-way center, a guy you specifically got to play a checking role, and then sticking him with a fringe prospect and a teenage rookie who, at the time, was not ready for the NHL, and give them sheltered minutes. It was so goddamned stupid...it was like Roy made lines 1, 2, and 4, and said...well, here are the leftovers.

I really hope he turns into a player as it'd just be cool to see the NHL add another country to the mix, but IMO I don't think he's quite good enough for the NHL.
