I think the writer gets a little carried away in the article and draws some strange conclusions, but yes, Rendulic was most definitely mishandled by Roy to start the season. He was given a roster spot to start the year and then put in a position to fail by being put on a line with 18-year-old Mikko Rantanen and new FA center at the time Carl Soderberg. Technically that was the third line, not the fourth, but they didn't get a lot of minutes, and were broken up soon afterwards. I pretty much lost all faith in Roy at that point...he really didn't look like he knew what he was doing. Taking your brand new two-way center, a guy you specifically got to play a checking role, and then sticking him with a fringe prospect and a teenage rookie who, at the time, was not ready for the NHL, and give them sheltered minutes. It was so goddamned stupid...it was like Roy made lines 1, 2, and 4, and said...well, here are the leftovers.
I really hope he turns into a player as it'd just be cool to see the NHL add another country to the mix, but IMO I don't think he's quite good enough for the NHL.
