I feel like next year is the year they FINALLY put it together and keep it that way. Next year should have Bigras (D), Siemens (D), Rantanen (LW/RW), and perhaps Pickard (G) ready to make a contribution at the NHL level. Geertsen (D) and Bleackley (F) could also be knocking on the door. That means wastes of time like Stuart, Holden, Guenin, and Berra will be marginalized or off the team entirely. The team should also have a bit of cap room to play with to get an under-the-radar free agent or two.

It's just a shame that they traded away O'Reilly and got some decent pieces, but not immediate help. Losing O'Reilly is obviously hurting them BIG time in the short term, as it's exposed their lack of solid D even further.

I suppose the only thing to do is stay the course, hope the prospects get some time later in the season, and reap the benefits of whatever pick you end up with. There's no immediate fix for this team unfortunately, either with a new player or coach.

Roy's new idea--take struggling center Matt Duchene and put him at RW with Landeskog and Soderberg. Probably just as well, Duchene looks like he's playing hurt.

Not confirmed yet but hoping to hell Roy is FINALLY fucking ready to put Nate Guenin on the shelf for an extended period of time. Gormley and Zadorov are young and mistake-prone, but Stuart and Guenin are just plain horrible. Holden sucks too, but not as bad as those other guys.

Avs FINALLY play a consistent, solid game last night in a 6-3 win over the also-struggling Flames.

Roy finally listened to reason and put Nate Guenin where he belongs in the press box. Gormley skated on the third pairing with Stuart, and, no surprise, the defense looked much, much better. Yes, I know, it's Calgary and they ain't playing well right now, but the D as a whole still played with a lot more jump now that they didn't have a 6-foot anchor bringing them down.

Holden is surprisingly playing decent hockey. He still has no business in the top four (Roy, ya need to put Zadorov back in and keep him in) but after a horrendous shift that saw him nowhere near the defensive zone when the Flames tied it up, he cleaned up his game and did okay.

Duchene, who's been struggling mightily, was put on RW with the two Swedes and so far so good. Two goals.

Somewhat concerned that both Erik Johnson and Tyson Barrie are not 100%. EJ might be hurt, I think Barrie is just struggling to find his game a bit. The suspension seemed to have served as a bit of a wake-up call.

Well...no surprise. Nikita Zadorov sent down to San Antonio. Unfortunately that means another young d-man is going to miss out on some ice time.

Hope this means more Stuart and less Guenin.

Tanguay out indefinitely with a knee injury. Avs recall Andreas Martinsen from San Antonio, which I believe brings the number of Norwegians in the NHL to two.
