Sault Ste Marie, Ontario native and Chicago Blackhawk's legend, Tony Esposito died Tuesday of Pancreatic Cancer. He was 78 years old. Tony is also the younger brother of NHL legend Phil Esposito. Esposito backstopped Michigan Tech University to the 1965 NCAA National Championship. He was drafted by Montreal and played 13 games. Montreal did not protect him in an intraleague draft as Montreal had a glut of goalies at the time. Chicago was able to pick him up for $25,000. In the 1969-70 season, Chicago went from last place to first place. Esposito holds the modern record of 15 shutouts in his debut Chicago season. He won the Calder and the Vezina trophies in that season. He won 3 Vezina Trophies in total in his 16 year career. He is Chicago's career leader with 418 wins and 74 shutouts. His overall record of 423-306-151 ranks 10th in league history. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988, joining his brother.
