Look pretty much the same as the old uniforms!

Wish they had just changed the main logo outright.

Looks more "Canadian national team" to me than anything. Gimmicky as they were, I kind of liked the storm-warning flags. Now it's rather generic.

Agreed. As I said on Twitter, they took away the best part of the uniform (the Hurricane warning flags, which I assume is where they got the red/black color scheme to begin with) and kept the worst part (the main logo, which looks like Zeus's butthole).

I'm reading the crest on front is made of a more "flexible" material, which is kinda silly. I've never heard a hockey player complain about the logo on the front of his jersey not being flexible enough.

Did you ever hear of one complaining that he feels he could go 9% faster if not for his pesky, jagged jersey?

I actually like the Hurricanes' logo, because it is relatively simple. It was of course tough to follow in the steps of The Most Ingenious Sports Logo of All Time™, but considering every '90s-onward logo has been insanely detailed, it's kind of nice to have one you can draw – without an intimate knowledge of shadowing effects, aerodynamics, perspective or a copy of the Da Vinci Code.

The other thing I noticed was the disappearance of a shoulder patch. Perhaps these are only early models and one will be added, but it's really surprising to see a missed merchandising opportunity in 2013.

Friend of mine who works for ESPN's graphics dept says most teams are going with more simplistic logos as people view more "news" and such on phones & other tiny screens. Bolts logo is perfect example, and when he explained it to me, after I said it was too simplistic.

Given the ever-increasing resolution and detail for devices like that, I don't believe that for an instant. To me it appears to be a natural backlash to the way-too-ornate designs of the '90s. More and more you see teams adopting retro looks after stints with positively garish uniforms. The best example is the NBA--hardly any team still has the same look they sported in the '90s.

The only example I can think of where media directly affected a team's look was the L.A. Rams, who switched from blue/gold to blue/white for a time because it looked better on black-and-white television.
