Lindholm has a year left on his ELC, but that didn't stop the team from giving him a two-year, 2.7M AAV extension that kicks in 16-17. Dude's going to be a star. |

I just don't get this team. They continue to grind like hell and win just about everywhere but the scoreboard. I just can't understand why they can't put the damned puck in the net. |

Last night's Avs/Canes tilt was some of the worst hockey I've ever seen. |

End of an era: Eric Staal dealt to Carolina. I thought there was a chance he might stick around at a reduced cap hit, but it's probably for the best that Carolina is moving on from him and Cam Ward. They got a lot of leeway because they were Cup heroes. The team has been stagnant since then. This is Faulk's team now. |

Meanwhile in the Q, Nicholas Roy has 44 goals. Fourth-round pick by the Canes. The other 29 teams are going to regret passing on him. |

Could the Canes be on the move? http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck- ... soc_trk=tw I would think not, just because of the sweet arena deal, relative market exclusivity and prior success. This looks like a franchise that needs to win in order to get back on track, not one that should move. Then again, if Karmanos can't find a willing buyer in The Triangle, that's another issue altogether. |

Karmanos is being sued by his kids. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/spt- ... 61407.html Quote: In a longer-term view, the lawsuit does raise questions about cash flow, since it alleges Karmanos has been using the assets in the trust fund as collateral to support the Hurricanes which implies that Karmanos is running out or has run out of other sources of wealth. The NHL has not confirmed that Karmanos has taken advances on league television and revenue-sharing payments, only that many owners do that. (The lawsuit implies that he has.) The overall impression created by the lawsuit and Karmanos' desire since 2014 to divest himself of his majority share in the franchise is that Karmanos is stretched increasingly thin financially and has been for at least two years.

That article as a whole is an awesome, detailed state of the Canes write-up. Makes you hope for better times for the franchise. |

James Wisniewski bought out. His time on the ice in a Canes uniform totaled exactly 47 seconds. http://www.canescountry.com/2016/6/30/1 ... wisniewski |

Jaccob Slavin, a defenceman in Carolina no one talks about, just signed a 7-year, $5.3M AAV extension. I guess that means he's pretty good. |

I'm switching back to this thread instead of the "Dundonhead" one. Justin Williams was named captain, and the new third jerseys have the letter on the right side of the sweater. I actually like those but that logo is gonna take some getting used to. https://twitter.com/JustinWilliams/stat ... 9641904133 |

Necas and Fleury already sent down. The latter feels especially ominous. If he hasn't made it by now... |

Ferland playing with the Finnish Kids already has 4 goals and 7 points in 7 games. This is one instance where I feel like the stats folks kinda overlooked the value a guy like this brings. He's way more than just some throw-in. Lindholm is playing really well for the Flames so it may balance out but I still think the Canes got the better end of this deal. As for Fleury, maybe he can follow in fellow Carolina draft bust Zach Boychuk and monetize his Twitter account. In all seriousness, him and Bean not developing like they should is not a good thing for the Canes. They kinda/sorta need to move on from Justin Faulk, and can't if there's no one to take his place. |
