In.....Sharangovich......Craig Conroy, Ryan Huska, hopefully Coronato, Pelletier and Wolf.

Out....Toffoli, Lucic, Ritchie, Stecher, Sutter, and Phillips,

Calgary still looks good on paper but there are 8 UFAs on the squad who are on the fence about staying this year. So its either a decent year and the Sutter disaster improves or players decide they've had enough and are off. Either way Conroy has his work cut out for him. As a fan the only one I would shake my head at losing would be Lindholm...the rest shouldn't be considered off limits if necessary.

Markstrom and Vladar are looking to rebound from a terrible year and Wolf will lose out because of it. Hopefully Huska and Conroy will be quick to make changes if the poor tending continues. The fortunate part here is that Markstrom has 3 years left and Vladar 2.....so nothing too long term that could keep them out of a package. Colorado looks attractive.

Still no captain on this team....probably should be Coleman or Kadri (I wouldn't give the C to a dude with a wait and see attitude, sorry Backlund)....maybe camp will fix that. I am looking for kids to take jobs out of camp.

I expect this team to grab a playoff spot this year but if the tending continues to suck and the wheels start coming off by Christmas it turns into a fire sale.

Preseason game 1 in the books. Coronato with the trick in a 10-0 stomping of the Canucks. Calgary did have a lot of vets playing which surprised me quite a bit. Vancouver did not. Hence the score.

I wish I could figure out how to embed these here...unfortunately I don't know how..

This is f'n awesome.....damn brutal but probably pretty accurate. Sorry Milan!

Bruins fans will likely be singing the same tune come Thanksgiving.

Oilers and Flames unveil their Heritage Classic uniforms.

https://thehockeynews.com/news/oilers-f ... c-uniforms

McDavid models the Oil's duds, Naz does the same for Calgary.

While not terribly original or dynamic, I like them both. I'd even go as far to say this is one of the more fun uniform designs the Oilers have had since CM97 joined the team, but that ain't sayin' much.

If the Avs weren't in cap hell they'd likely be in the market for Vladar.

I'm wondering if they're really hoping to trade Markstrom. That would be the play I'd make. Get rid of that awful contract.

Otherwise, this is a dumb move.

I agree...that's what I am hoping as well. Vladar and Wolf would be a fine tandem.

Calgary Flames up to their usual BS of only airing pre-season home game on Flames TV within the province.

I'd watch it if I could but apparently they don't want you to. From what I can gather Lindholm might be signed before the season begins. Matthew Coronato looks to be best in show at camp.

Jacob Markstrom may or may not be the Flames' starting goalie when all is said and done, but he's already won best mask of the season.

Admittedly I don't know much about the Flames in Pre-season other than what I can scare up on the web or on Flames talk. I have been able to watch every Bruins preseason game and only 1 Flames game and the final one tomorrow should be on NHL Net.

https://flamesnation.ca/news/what-you-n ... cap-relief

With an injury to Rooney it appears to have agitated the cap situation going into the season.

From the ridiculous article section of the net

Tanev has green light to go on offence

https://calgaryherald.com/sports/hockey ... on-offence

This is a guy with 171 points (31 goals) in 717 games. He's made a career of being defensively sound and nothing wrong with that!

I get everyone is in damage control mode up in Calgary but pump the damn brakes!

And down he goes!

I suppose not much they could do here. Cap space needs to be juggled with injuries, Lindholm contract is in the works.....and this move was easy.

Moving Markstrom or Vladar....probably not so much.

Honestly, he's known as a stay-at-home guy but I've watched enough of Tanev in a Canucks uniform to know the guy is pretty damn good with the puck. In fact, I was kinda surprised when I read a scouting report on him that said he was a defensive defenseman.

This is probably a bit of PR, the new head coach making it known that Sutter's stifling system is gone. I've never been a fan of coaches, especially in this day and age, who put the clamp on their blueliners. There should always be room for fluidity and creativity no matter who the player is. It's a green light but I doubt it will radically change Tanev's game.

Sutter was a dump-and-chase guy to the bitter end. Huska is likely trying to get his team to skate with the puck more, which is more often than not a better route for success.

They already cut the fat with the meat heads that Sutter swore by. I get it...its PR and some over positive psychology show....but its Chris Tanev (and I've watched him for years as well), he knows his role and I never heard he was unhappy with it. Its bad enough we have Nakita Zadorov out there channeling Bobby Orr. Let Rasmus do that!

We don't even know if Vladar and Markstrom are ready to stop pucks this year......the last thing we need is LESS defense.

Whatever, maybe my D3 intake isn't enough to appreciate that article or what's going around the dressing room right now.

Bring on the Canucks tonight! Let's wrap this shit up and see where it goes.

Yeesh that was ugly....unfortunately I had to bear witness to this new "do what feels good" play style which included watching Tanev and Zadorov overhandle the puck several times. Hopefully players stop drinking that kool aid pretty quick and get down to business once the season starts.

A legit and minor hit on a floating Coronato chapped some asses but that's what the league has come to.

Markstrom was doing Markstrom things and letting in the first shot of the game from the blue line.

Anyway my visual sample size of a 10-0 drubbing of the no veteran Canucks and then a lacklustre same as last year effort out of the Flames bookends the preseason.

Can't beat up on these boys or pass judgement yet. Its a new season with positive vibes......for now. With a new stadium Calgary will have 35 more years to figure it out.

The Canucks announcers were particularly ornery and wound super tight. They were breaking that shit down in between periods like the Nucks were already out of the playoffs. It seemed like Kids night in the background...perhaps they just should have dropped all that crankiness and started interviewing the kids.

If both Rooney and Pelletier are LTI eligible, and based on their remaining roster players, the #Flames could temporarily assign Coronato, leave Honzek on the active roster, and place Rooney/Pelletier on off-season LTIR

This would give them a perfect capture of $83.5M
