The thing I could see about trading Gaudreau is he and Tkachuk are free agents at the same time. Matt, the RFA, is the guy they'll probably focus on.

Also, I could see them really wanting Hall, who could slide in Johnny's spot, allowing them to deal Gaudreau somewhere to improve their defence/goaltending or get a second line centre.

Hall would be a nice pick up.

Elliotte says the Flames checked in on Ekman-Larsson. Obvious fit with the turnover on defence here.

It'd be a very Flames thing to do to trade for a big-ticket defenseman with a big rep who's clearly on a decline.

Good Piece on the numbers behind who stays and who goes.

I liked the stance on Kylington.

Ward gets the interim tag ripped off and an extension.

This is an interesting Twitter thread. Basically it says that it's almost impossible to tell if Geoff is a good coach or not simply because of some very unique circumstances that led not only to his promotion, but a pandemic-truncated season.

https://twitter.com/Kent_Wilson/status/ ... 5405811712

My take: It don't matter who you got behind the bench if you can't fix the goaltending.

I'm laughing maniacally as I close my eyes and imagine "Big Save Dave" getting absolutely ventilated by the Stars in the bubble. Fuck that idiot.

Lindholm is certainly not on my must keep list (especially after that Dallas series).....I'd like to see Domi here anyway. I'd take it. But that depends on what kind of money Domi wants to make....Lindholm is a 5 Million guy....I don't think Domi is but comparative value to Bennett. If the Flames could sign him for 4.5 and then Domi actually plays well again..well it would be a deal....but that's quite a gamble...and not something I think Domi would be interested in.

They have to sign a decent goalie though....if they think they can stick it out again with Dave and Cam or some other cast off they are high. But what do I know...Geoff Ward is still around.

Don't know how good this team will be next season, but they'll at least look amazing while doing so.

Guess I'm going to get to watch a Flames prospect this year here in Lincoln.

The nature of this rather odd draft has led to interesting moments like this. Kids either playing or getting ready to play when they learn that they've been picked.

oh man....f'n Edmonton is jacking up the price on Markstrom. Per 960 down to a 2 horse race in Alberta.

I don't know if I like that...what's the back up plan? Fleury? Khudobin?

Well...Flames are obviously all in a Goalie....Talbot is gone and Markstrom is out in Vancouver but Holtby is in.

You're going to love Markstrom. Hates to lose, loves his teammates, never gives up on a play, tracks pucks very well and works his ass off in practice... Downsides are that he does allow the softie from time to time (less so lately), doesn't talk to the media, handles the puck poorly (that might be less of a problem in Calgary with the d you have), not a great skater so watch out if he leaves his crease, may be wearing down given his age (groin) and the amount of high danger shots he's faced in Vancouver... You can see when he's dialed in - his movements are crisp and clean, stays in the paint, and moves economically.

Sounds like the second coming of Kipper........which is the last time we had a good goalie. Frankly I don't care how much they had to pay....its time to stop messing around!

Looks like the Flames may get a little bent over here on term and a NMC...but whatever at this point....not sure the Flames system has ever produced a farm to market goalie appropriately. Not crossing my fingers that Wolf is an exception.
