Yikes....not sure if this was brought up here. I feel that the professor mentioned this as Scott Parker said something too.

I always knew he torpedoed Baertschi and that he favored some players over others but some of that is just being a dick.

I feel like most NHL teams would be better off if they were self-coached with some AI helpers. Old school army-like bullshit doesn't work, and every team has their people who practice that.

Interesting. Very interesting.

Remember that Sarich was the salary dump/add-on in 2012 in the deal that sent Alex Tanguay back to Colorado (Tanguay and Hartley reportedly had a very stormy relationship in Denver, no surprise they didn't last long together in Calgary). So it seems there was more reason behind it than just that.

Fun fact: Michel Therrien and Hartley are good friends who coached together for the Laval Titan. It seems neither has any issue with breaking down/insulting/humiliating their players if they feel it'll motivate or teach them. I sure hope they were easier on the kids when they were in juniors at least.

Another fun fact: Hartley reportedly alienated a few players during his time in Colorado. Everyone knows about Parker and Tanguay, but the story goes that once Peter Forsberg finally turned on him, that was it. I thought then and still kinda think it was a foolish move by Lacroix back then (he was obsessed with that asinine "Pursuing History" bullshit) but that's not to say Bob was completely blameless. The one guy he remained close with? Patrick Roy. The two continued to stay in touch and Roy credits him with teaching him a lot about coaching. Unfortunately, Roy's system during his time in Colorado had more than a passing similarity to what Hartley likes to do, and it really didn't work, even during that insane 2013-14 run to the division title and playoffs. Therrien, Hartley, and Roy use tactics and prefer players that were a much better fit for the slog-it-out 90s and early 00s. They're very much old-school.

Bob is a good guy to listen to, his weekly radio shows in Denver were hilarious. It's pretty clear the game has passed him by though, and he'd be better off staying away from the bench and continuing as a broadcaster.
