Flames are already saying they're gonna try Tkachuk on the top line with Monahan and Gaudreau.

I get that Ferland was/is a bottom-six player who was more or less a passenger on that top line, but putting up 21 goals on a team that had notable scoring issues is still something IMO. I think he's more than a throw-in.

I just don't like this deal from CGY's perspective. Yes they got two good players but they also got two RFAs whereas Dougie is still signed to a good deal. They also lose some offensive punch from the back end, though they'll get some additional scoring from Lindholm up front.
I like Hanafin, but not a big fan of Lindholm. As for Fox, time will tell.

Couple this with the fact that the Flames had to sit and watch as the Isles took Noah Dobson with their pick, and I think Treliving is in serious trouble. He's my pick for first GM fired in next year's Coaching Watch.

I would feel the same way If I hadn't watched the team check out down the stretch last year. That was a complete lack of heart and after that display they had to do something big.... I've expressed my own personal opinions on Dougie's play at times. In that aspect I think this move is decent. As you mentioned in the trade thread I think it balances the team out. That's just a feeling for now it seems.

3living has his balls on the line even more so now. I guess Tckachukkdkkdk would be a solid move on the top line. Not sure where that puts Lindholm.....I certainly don't want him with Backlund but that's Peter's problem! If that backfires at all or if this team still fades/fails.....he's gone.

That's fair, but I'd also say the team's collapse down the stretch had more to do with Smith's injury, Monahan trying to play through something fairly serious, and outright lousy coaching than any sort of "disunity" in the room.

Not painting Dougie out to be a saint--he's obviously not the most sociable of guys and there are indeed holes in his game, but I don't think the Flames handled this situation well.

In any event, they got as good a coach as they could want and got decent value for Dougie. Now if Monahan goes down again they have another option to switch over to center if need be.

I think this is also Bennett's last run. He looks like he could pan out as a depth player but that won't happen in Calgary. He may start out the season as a Flame but I don't think he finishes as one.

James Neal......interesting...

https://www.tsn.ca/flames-sign-f-neal-t ... -1.1128810

Well...I guess that adds some secondary scoring.....

5 years....5.75 per year.

Just for a sec....I am not a Ferland fan...however

Ferland put up 41 points last year and is a UFA.

77 21 20 41 5 24 6 6 0 0 0 0 144 14.6

Neal had 25 goals and 19 assists last year.....

3Living is on the clock!

I think Neal’s a little overrated but I’m a secondary role he should be fine. And hey, he comes with Melanie Collins so that’s a plus.

Including the smaller fish.....Flames sign Derek Ryan for 3 at 3.125......a former Peters player in Car and good on the draw.

They signed Austin Czarnik (as a Co-Bruins fan I was disappointed they let him walk), a former Bruin who scored well in the AHL. 2 years at 1.25.

Sign Alan Quine from the Isle and Tyler Graovac from the Caps...depth moves for Stockton.

Of note the Flames did not qualify Emile Poirier and Hunter Smith so that seems to be the end of the Flames dream for those 2.

Lindholm extends: six years, 4.85M. Potential bargain if he realizes his potential.

Flames and Canadiens swap a couple of draft busts--Hunter Shinkaruk heads to Montreal for Kerby Rychel.

Both onto their third organizations. AHL fodder.

Both have to clear waivers first, which is likely.

FTR Rychel is probably better to stick in the 4th line winger role than Curtis Lazar, just MHO though.

Personally I think Stajan is a better player at this stage than Brouwer, but that's just me.

Holy shiznit, that's a lot of PTOs to bring into camp.

Quote:
G Jeff Glass
D Philip Samuelsson
D Viktor Svedberg
D Ryan Sproul

D Justin Falk
F Logan Shaw
F Scott Sabourin
F Justin Auger
F Gilbert Brule

Most of those names are recognizable to me, one big standout (apart from Brule...seriously?) is former 2011 11th overall pick by the Colorado Avalanche and Saskatoon Blades standout, Duncan Siemens. Toiled around in the minors for years with the Avs organization until finally getting a real shot late last season, also scoring his first career NHL goal on a long-bomb empty netter. Dude has size and speed, unfortunately just not the hands. His puck skills are simply not NHL-caliber. But under the right circumstances he could yet make his way as a depth guy. I wish him the best of luck.

But seriously...that is a LOT of warm bodies to bring to camp.

I was reminded that half the team is in China, so this makes more sense.

Just got back from China myself and can relate. The flight across that date line completely shatters ones constitution.

David Rittich is a total nutjob, he's the perfect goalie for this team.

The NHL is missing a loony goalie with Bryz and Cechmanek long gone. Glad to see this guy picking up the mantle.

He's got a point.....he would have a much better case and so would the Flames for having gone all Theo Fleury when Benn clipped him. Instead he pushes through....or literally doesn't and the OT goal is scored and upheld (the right call based on his choice to play through). "Enough time" is subjective considering Rittich is a large male ( 6'3" 210 lbs) and embellishing the clip would have nixed that. I believe that's the point behind his "maybe next time I will lay down for half an hour" comment.

Oh he definitely has a point, I hope the league office is wise enough not to reward a flopper (I'm not sure they are though).

I think a GIF of his meltdown is gonna see plenty of use on social media.
