SYNOPSIS:

Barring a cinderella run the Flames are not a playoff team (and even if they did they can't be taken seriously). While there are a few bright spots there are more holes to fill. This season is a step back from last years over achievement. They are lucky to be sitting at .500 at the halfway mark after a horrible start. Thank goodness for Johnny or this team would be a train wreck to watch.

PLUS:

Johnny Hockey has been up to task and much more. This guy is dynamic and he is a threat every time he’s on the ice. No one is close to him in points and he leads the team with 43 while retaining a respectable plus 6.

TJ Brodie….his presence was missed in the beginning of the year and the Flames train wrecked with a team that had no idea how to play D or stop the puck. Since coming off an injury he leads the team in plus/minus with a plus 8. He’s also providing much needed offense from the blue line where others have not lived up to expectations.

Gio…He’s been solid with what he’s been given to work with. He’s thanking his higher power that Brodie wasn’t out longer.

MINUS:

Hartley….his dogged determination to his line combinations has retarded growth in some of the younger players. For Pete’s sake cut Engelland and Bollig already.

The Goalie debacle….while certainly an identified weak spot going in to the season I don’t think anyone expected it to be this bad. To have the goalie you gave up on in the beginning currently as your starter says it all. Fortunately Ramo has accepted his rough handling with grace and class. The goalie situation needs love as Ramo is still not the answer.

Hamilton……Yikes….this guy is really getting paid and he hasn’t exactly rounded into form yet. I am sure he’ll pan out at some point….hopefully.

All the forwards besides Johnny. Monahan, Backlund, Frolik, Hudler specifically. Sam Bennett needs more ice time.

OUTLOOK:
Stay the course and enjoy Johnny Hockey. Look for a goalie. Give Bennett more ice time. Go get Jarome back and send David Jones back to Colorado where he belongs. For now there is always next year.

Hartley is still one of my all-time favorite hockey personalities, but even I gotta admit he didn't do a great job of coaching this season.

Bennett scored a hat trick (and the pic of him the NHL posted on Instagram to acknowledge the feat is friggin' hilarious) last night, so there's hope yet.

It's obvious Dougie don't like to block shots. It's a shame his coach seemingly never really made any adjustments to perhaps work around this.

Bob is likely gone at season's end or at the beginning of next.

This team is done for the year. Everyone on this team has checked out beyond Johny and Sean. It was amusing to see Dougie get soundly booed at the Garden last night. What a snoozer!
